BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team hosted Louisville in the final preseason scrimmage on Sunday. The Cardinals outlasted the Hoosiers to win by a score of 4-1 on the hot and humid August afternoon.
The Hoosiers' lone goal was scored in the 48th minute, when senior Dani Castro fired a pass to the right post where sophomore Kelsey Kiper was to deflect the pass past the Louisville keeper.
Indiana saw good play from freshman goalkeeper Becky Pany, who recorded four saves in more than 50 minutes of action.
Louisville got goals from Nicole Youman, Nikki Auker, Lauren Schaefer and Lauren Schmeing.
Indiana head coach Amy Robertson was pleased with her team's play in the first half and looks to build on that moving into the regular season.
"We played the first half well as a team. The thing we need to work on is capitalizing and taking advantage of the opportunities we get over the course of a game," said Indiana head coach Amy Robertson. "Louisville is a very organized and aggressive team. I feel like this game will help raise our standard. We got a lot of positives out of the scrimmage, and we need to build on those. We need to rest-up and get ready for Rutgers."
The Hoosiers return to action on Sunday, Aug. 29, when they will visit Piscataway, N.J. to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. That game is slated to start at 7:30 p.m. ET.
