BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team picked up its third straight win with a 2-1 victory over Villanova on the IU Hockey Field in Bloomington on Sunday, Oct. 17. Senior Kelsey Kiper netted the Hoosiers (9-5) first goal of the game in the 44th minute and sophomore Shareyna Chang scored the game-winner in the 48th minute.
After playing a scoreless first half, the Wildcats (5-9) took a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute as Meredith Sabatini scored an unassisted goal. However, IU fought back, earning a penalty corner at the 43:07 mark that set up Kiper for her third goal of the season. Redshirt junior Brenna Moeljadi dribbled the ball off the corner around the right side of the circle and sent it to Kiper, who scored off the left post of the cage to even the score at 1-1 in the 44th minute. Just four minutes later, the Hoosiers used a similar play off a corner as Moeljadi sent the ball to right side of the cage to find Chang for the goal, her fifth of the season.
Kiper tallied one goal on two shots on goal, while Chang recorded one goal on one shot. Redshirt sophomore Morgan Fleetwood led IU with five shots, two on goal, while Moeljadi recorded two assists.
Villanova outshot Indiana, 13-12, however the Hoosiers earned four penalty corners to the Wildcats' two.
Indiana returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 23 as the Hoosiers take on Michigan State in East Lansing at 1 p.m. ET. IU's battle with the Spartans will be a tape-delay broadcast on the Big Ten Network, which will air on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. ET.
