
Field Hockey Tops RedHawks, 4-2 in Exhibition

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team concluded its preseason play today, August 19, defeating visiting Miami (Ohio) 4-2 at the IU Field Hockey Complex.
The exhibition format included two 30-minute periods followed by a 20-minute session.
IU outshot its opponent 17-10, eight of which were on goal and four found their way between the posts.
Emily Bowker, Gaby Olshemski, Rachel Stauffer and Mariella Grote each tallied a goal apiece in the contest, while Nicole Volgraf and Audra Heilman were credited with assists.
Maggie Olson picked up the win and made three saves on the day.
Bowker and Olshemski put the Hoosiers up 2-0 with goals in the first period. Stauffer would help increase IU's lead to three on a pass from Volgraf and found the back of the net during the 22nd minute.
Indiana waited until the final period to net their final goal of the contest, as Grote scored on a deflection of a shot by Heilman in the 64th minute to eventually help IU to the 4-2 victory.
The Hoosiers will open up the regular season Friday, August 24 on the road when they travel to Kent State for a Noon ET matchup with the Golden Flashes.
