Nelson, Oertel Named CRCA All-Americans

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Two Indiana rowing athletes earned College Rowing Coaches Association honorable mention All-America honors as announced by the organization on Friday (June 7).
Members of Indiana's Varsity Eight, senior coxswain Katherine Nelson and graduate transfer Annabel Oertel become the program's 11th and 12th All-Americans. IU has earned four All-America awards in the last three seasons after Laura Feinson repeated the feat in 2022 and 2023.
Nelson and Oertel led the Hoosiers to a 15th place finish at the NCAA Championships – two spots higher than its performance in 2023 – as IU's top boat finished No. 14 in the country. The V8 earned its second consecutive silver medal at the Big Ten Championships in May which clinched a program-record second place team finish. Their crew finished the season with a 33-11 head-to-head record.
Nelson has served as coxswain for Indiana's top boat since her freshman season, earning three Big Ten medals. Oertel joined Indiana this season following a decorated undergraduate rowing career at Cal.
