BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – As the final chapter comes to a close in a storied volleyball career at Indiana, senior outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles etched her name in program history on Friday (Nov. 14) evening at Wilkinson Hall with a 3-1 win over visiting Oregon.
The Madrid native helped IU to its 39th conference win since 2022, making her the winningest player in Big Ten play in Indiana history. No athlete in the 51-year history of volleyball in Bloomington has been a part of more conference victories (39) than the 6-foot-2 senior outside hitter.
IU has enjoyed its greatest four-year run in program history since Alonso-Corcelles arrived in Bloomington in 2022. She joined the team as a three-rotation opposite hitter but has blossomed into one of the league's elite six-rotation left-side attackers. Of IU's four-person senior class, she's the only one to play her entire career with the Hoosiers.
During her senior season, Alonso-Corcelles has paired up with fellow senior Avry Tatum to help change the culture of the program. With a young roster around the senior duo, IU has soared to new heights in 2025. The Hoosiers have put together their seventh 20-win season in program history (since the NCAA began sponsoring volleyball in 1981) and are destined to break a NCAA Tournament drought that dates back to 2010.
In her four seasons at IU, Alonso-Corcelles has produced 1,293 kills, 729 digs, 1,505 points, 192 blocks and 92 aces. She's top-10 in program history in kills (1,293) and has turned into a complete player with her defensive skills. As the season winds down, Alonso-Corcelles will have a shot at breaking the program's all-time wins record. She needs just three more wins to become the winningest player in IU history.
