
Indiana Wrestling to Face Chattanooga in Final Dual of the Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– No. 22 Indiana will close out the regular season with a dual at Chattanooga on Friday at 7 p.m. in Maclellan Gym.
LAST DUAL:
-This is the sixth time out of the last seven seasons where Indiana has finished the regular season with a match against the Mocs.
-The Hoosiers lead the all-time series, 10-2, and have won the last two meetings by a combined score of 65-14.
-The only two losses in the series for the Hoosiers came in 2020 and 2022.
-Chattanooga owns a 5-9 record on the seasonn with a 4-3 mark in the Southern Conference.
-The Mocs are coming off of a 22-17 victory over Gardner-Webb (Feb. 16). They also own Division I victories over Cal State Bakersfield, VMI, Presbyterian and Davidson.
-Chattanooga's Blake Boarman (133) and Sergio Desiante (174) are both ranked. Boarman is ranked No. 26 and Desiante and No. 29 for their weight classes.
-Both of them are listed in Chattanooga's probables and if they wrestle, they will wrestle in ranked matchups against Indiana's Angelo Rini and Derek Gilcher, respectively.
-Rini is slotted at No. 25 at 133 lbs. and Gilcher is No. 31 at 174 lbs.
-Following the Chattanooga dual, Indiana will prepare for the postseason as the Big Ten Championships await on March 8-9.
NEBRASKA REWIND:
-Indiana fell short in its final Big Ten dual of the season in its 39-2 loss at No. 5 Nebraska last Sunday (Feb. 16).
-Nebraska opened the dual with winning the first nine bouts.
-No. 18 Jacob Bullock (285) won the final match of the bout in a 6-2 decision over No. 21 Harley Andrews, scoring on two takedowns and only giving up two escape points.
-The Hoosiers only finished with two points in the dual due to a conduct penalty deducting a team point.
-Indiana assistant coach CJ Red made his first return to Lincoln since he began his coaching career.
-Red wrestled for the Cornhuskers from 2016-22 where he was a three-time All-American and five-time NCAA qualifier. He joined Indiana's staff in the 2022-23 season.
-It was Indiana's time wrestling at Nebraska since 2017.
ON THE RISE:
-After beginning the season unranked, Indiana broke into the top-30 nationally on InterMat's Dual Rankings and most recently got slated at No. 22 in the NWCA Dual Rankings. The team has been ranked as high as No. 21 for both the NWCA and Flo.
-This is the third consecutive season that Indiana has been ranked in the top 25.
-The Hoosiers currently have eight ranked wrestlers, which ties the most they've had ranked at one time this season.
-Seven Indiana wrestlers were ranked in both the first and second set of NCAA Coaches Rankings.
-Indiana started the season 4-0 in duals and now owns a 7-5 record. The 4-0 start marks the third consecutive year where the team got off to a 3-0 or better start.
