MINNEAPOLIS – Eighteen finalists and one relay will compete in five events for Indiana during Thursday (Feb. 27) night's scoring session at the 2025 Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships inside the Jane K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
Among IU's finalists are two top qualifiers, eight championship finalists, seven consolation finalists and three C finalists as well as the No. 3-seeded 200-yard freestyle relay. Indiana will look to improve upon its one-day lead after having the strongest morning among the nine teams.
Junior Owen McDonald got under the NCAA A cut in the 200-yard IM, trimming his season-best time by 18 hundredths to go 1:40.68 and earn the top time in the morning. Senior Luke Barr was the No. 2 qualifier in the event, posting a personal best 1:41.08. Indiana stacked six finalists in the event.
Junior Zalán Sárkány went 4:13.41 to lead the 500-yard freestyle. Sárkány and McDonald – both transfers from 2024 national champion Arizona State – made their individual debuts at the Big Ten Championships Thursday morning.
IU added six more finalists in the 50 free. In another championship debut, Junior Matt King – who anchored IU's Big Ten record 200 medley relay Wednesday night in 18.39 – led IU with the fifth-fastest time in the morning, a 19.10. Senior Finn Brooks will join him in the A final after laying down a personal best 19.12 to place seventh.
Indiana diving got its meet started on the 1-meter springboard, sending two to the championship final and two to the consolation final. Seniors Carson Tyler (387.05) – the silver medalist in this event a year ago – and Quinn Henninger (379.65) finished second and third, respectively, behind USC graduate student and German Olympian Moritz Wesemann (392.35).
