Three Hoosiers Advance to Round of 16

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –––– Indiana opened the 2025 NCAA Championships this morning at the Wells Fargo Center with six Hoosiers competing.
No. 18 Jacob Moran (125), No. 21 Angelo Rini (133), No. 27 Tyler Lillard (165), No. 22 DJ Washington (184), No. 24 Gabe Sollars (197) and No. 21 Jacob Bullock (285) all competed for the Hoosiers.
Session I only consisted of preliminary round matches and the first round of the championship bracket.
Moran, Rini and Sollars all won by decision in their opening round match to advance.
MATCH RECAPS
First Round Matches
The opening round of the championships saw three Hoosiers pull off upsets to advance to the Round of 16.
Jacob Moran set the tone against No. 15 Maximo Renteria (Oregon State) with an early takedown in the first period. He added on a second in the third period to extend his lead.
Renteria would score on one takedown late, but Moran held on for a 7-6 decision win.
Angelo Rini dominated against No. 12 Ethan Oakley (North Carolina), Rini earned an escape point and scored a takedown for a commanding 4-0 lead entering the third period and blasted through Oakley's legs for another takedown in a 7-1 win to advance to the Round of 16.
In a rematch from the regular season dual, Gabe Sollars won the second meeting against No. 9 Zac Braunagel (Illinois) in a 6-5 decision. Sollars and Braunagel were knotted at 5-5 in the third period before Sollars' riding time point broke the tie for the win.
Lillard, Washington and Bullock all fell short in low-scoring, close matches decided by decision.
