BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team took the home court for the first time this season, playing in front of over 1,200 fans during its annual Cream and Crimson scrimmage. The cream team, filled mostly with IU's expected starters, earned a sweep of the crimson side (29-27, 29-27, 16-14).
Freshman outside hitter Jaidyn Jager stole the show in her IU debut. She provided 19 kills, hitting over .350, as the cream squad squeezed out a narrow sweep. She found a quick connection with her fellow freshman setter Teodora Krickovic. Senior opposite hitter Avry Tatum had 12 kills for the winning side.
The Hoosiers looked much better defensively with increased back row depth. Freshman defensive specialist Avery Freeman had nearly 20 digs for the crimson side while freshman libero Audrey Jackson added over 10 of her own for the winning side. Senior Madi Sell led the way for the cream team with seven blocks.
All attention turns to next Friday's (Aug. 29) season opener in Coral Gables. The Hoosiers, filled with eight newcomers to the roster, will be a tough side for any opponent this year. IU will open the home campaign on Thursday (Sept. 4) against SEMO.
