EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Indiana men's and women's cross-country teams had a great opportunity to compete against Big Ten opponents in the Spartan Invite Big Ten Preview. The men's side finished sixth while the women's group finished seventh in the Spartan Invite Big Ten Preview.
The Hoosiers also combined for 11 personal-bests, five on the women's side and six for the men.
"Indiana cross country head coach Eric Heins said it was a "solid day all things considered. (There is) work to do, but both groups can improve from here."
The men saw sophomore Dylon Nalley run an impressive race, improving on his personal best in a time of 23:51.0. His time pushed him to third place overall. (Dylon led from the gun and got caught by a couple of really good runners towards the end," said Heins. "(This was) his best race of his young career."
The men's squad also had multiple improvements from others including Garrett Hicks (24:42.3), Brayden Henkle (25:26.3), and Andrew Mangum all setting personal bests.
Freshmen Ahmed Saleh and Caden Click debuted in their first collegiate 8K races today, earning points with their finishes
Coach Heins was happy to see that the "women went out hard from the gun, which was awesome to see them attack the race and run with intention." The girls saw five Hoosiers run personal bests today, including two freshmen competing in their first collegiate 6K race.
In the women's 6K, junior Lily Myers crossed the line first for the Hoosiers, finishing 15th in her time of 20:53.7.
