
Tatum Leads Offensive Charge in Bounce Back Effort

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Following the first defeat of the season, the Indiana volleyball team (9-1, 0-0 B1G) put together a fantastic response on Saturday (Sept. 20) morning. The Hoosiers worked an efficient offense to secure a four-set victory over Bradley (25-14, 25-10, 15-25, 25-18) at E.A. Diddle Arena on the campus of Western Kentucky.
IU answered the challenge by its coaching staff in the final non-conference match of the season. Four of IU's primary attackers had at least nine kills. Senior opposite hitter Avry Tatum had a fantastic weekend and contributed 19 kills (.472 hitting percentage) in the win.
The Hoosiers put together points in every fashion of the game to grit out the four-set victory. On top of 56 kills (.376 team hitting percentage), IU added nine service aces and 12 total blocks. Led by 14 digs from freshman libero Audrey Jackson, IU's defense won the back row battle (44-42 digs).
Freshman setter Teodora Kričković dished out a career-high 49 assists and was benefited by fantastic shot selection from Tatum and freshman outside hitter Jaidyn Jager. The two California natives combined for 34 kills and committed just three attacking errors.
Sophomore middle blocker Ella Boersema matched a career high with nine kill (.400 hitting percentage) and chipped in five blocks. She had two of IU's nine aces. Freshman middle blocker Victoria Gray led the way with six blocks, the third match of her career with six rejections.
Head coach Steve Aird and the Hoosiers finish the non-conference slate with a 9-1 record. The team heads into Big Ten play next Wednesday (Sept. 24) at Northwestern in a nationally-televised game on Big Ten Network. First serve in Evanston is set for 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT.
How it Happened
• Despite some sloppy play in the third set, the Hoosiers had a strong performance on Saturday afternoon. IU won every statistical battle. That included a massive advantage on offense in kills (56-42) and hitting percentage (.376-.177). IU's defense worked more blocks (12.0-4.0) and digs (44-42) than the Braves.
• In both set two and set four, the Hoosiers led the entire way. In game one, sophomore middle blocker Ella Boersema had back-to-back aces to put the home team in the lead for good. There were just nine tie scores and four lead changes in the entire contest.
