No. 9 Indiana Wins Thriller Over No. 14 Princeton, Falls To No. 8 LBSU

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – No. 9 Indiana water polo (13-4, 0-2 MPSF) won in walk off fashion against No. 14 Princeton (11-10) but fell to No. 8 Long Beach State, 12-7, as it split day one of the Aztec Invitational at the Aztec Aquaplex on Saturday.

KEY MOMENTS VS. PRINCETON
- Senior Louisa Downes had a hat trick in the first quarter as she helped Indiana build a 4-3 lead. Senior Grace Klingler broke up a tie in the second with 5:34 to play and freshman Macie Drum held on to the lead with a goal at the 2:57 mark to take a 6-5 halftime edge.
- The two teams traded goals in the third, as the Tigers were able to go up one, 8-7.
- In the fourth and Princeton with a 10-9 lead, Klingler had a chance at a penalty goal with 2:17 to play but was denied. She bounced back with 2:17 to play to tie the game up at 10-all.
- Indiana got the ball back with 14 seconds left and shot from Higgs across the pool was wide forcing Princeton timeout. After Princeton's 7-on-6 failed attack, Indiana got one last chance with Higgs again from across the pool that went in as time expired.
NOTES VS. PRINCETON
- Indiana wins its third-straight against the Tigers. All wins have been by one goal in the last three meetings.
- Downes and Klingler combined for four goals each. Klingler finished the game with six points as she tied a team-high two assists in the effort.
- Higgs finished with eight saves and recorded her ninth-career goal in the win.
- Junior Olivia Harris added three steals and two assists.
KEY MOMENTS VS. LBSU
- Indiana worked its way back to even after starting the game with two Long Beach State goals as senior Grace Klingler and freshman Macie Drum found the back of the net. Each team would tack on another to the score before the end of the first, resulting in a 3-3 tie.
- After falling behind by two goals in the second, junior Olivia Harris's cross cage shot with 1:39 to go pulled IU back within one score. The Beach added one more before the break for the 7-5 advantage.
- In the second half, the Hoosiers had a hard time finding the cage, scoring just two goals in the final 16 minutes as Long Beach added five more to secure the win.
NOTES VS. LBSU
- Seven different Hoosiers scored against Long Beach. Senior Louisa Downes finished with two points on a goal and assist. Downes needs one more goal to record her 150th career goal at Indiana.
- Senior goalie Jasmine Higgs had eight saves and added three steals. Higgs is now two saves shy of her 650th career save at Indiana.
- Senior Nicole Tyner had a goal, two steals and a team-high four drawn exclusions.
