Hoosiers Drop Game Two at No. 9 UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. ––– After a 1-1 battle through the opening three frames, No. 9 UCLA used a pair of home runs and a bases-clearing double in the latter three innings to pull away and win game two of the Big Ten series in Westwood.
In the final tally, Indiana fell to UCLA, 7-2, on Saturday (April 4) at Easton Stadium.
With the loss, Indiana is now 27-9 on the year and 7-4 in the Big Ten.
GAME 2: No. 9 UCLA 7, INDIANA 2

KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana nearly struck first in the top of the first inning when Alex Cooper singled to right field and reached third base on an error in the game's second at bat.
• UCLA threatened with two runners on and only one out in the bottom of the first, but Indiana used a 5-4-3 double play to get out of the inning unscathed.
• Megan Grant opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when she hit a home run to left field to put UCLA up 1-0.
• Indiana used a home run of its own to tie the game at 1-1 when Ellie Goins homered off the foul pole in left in the top of the fourth.
• UCLA regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a bases loaded walk to put the Bruins up 2-1. Then, Madalyn Strader made a clutch catch in foul territory to prevent any more runs and keep it at a 1-run game.
• The Bruins built on the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Grant hit her second solo home run of the day before Aleena Garcia hit a 2-run home run to right field to extend their lead to 5-1.
• Indiana would cut into the lead with an RBI double from Hannah Haberstroh in the top of the sixth to score Strader.
• Jordan Woolery hit a bases-clearing double to score two more Bruin runs in the bottom of the sixth to solidify the score at 7-2.
