BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Following the 12th day of the Indiana football program's fall camp on Friday (August 21) running backs Lee Beebe Jr., Khobie Martin and Turbo Richard talked with the media in the Don Croftcheck Football Team Room.
Below is a partial transcript, while video of the full media sessions can be found in the links above this story or at IUHoosiers.com/watch.
Lee Beebe Jr. | RB | Fifth Year
On his rehab process and trying not to push too hard...
LB: Just trying not to think about it a lot. A lot of injuries happen whenever you think about it too much. Just putting the injury past me, just focusing on what I can do now, getting in the treatment room. Just treating my body right.
On this year's defense and last's...
LB: Between this year and last year, I can say our defense is still unstoppable. Our defense is still great. I think I can compare it to it has the same physicality, if not more. The difference between this year and last year is a lot of new guys on the D-line, they're all fast, phsycial and relentless. That's the difference.
On the relationships between the running backs...
LB: We have a great bond. All three of us have a great bond. Not even just the three of us, the whole running back room. We have a great bond and when we're out there on the field we feed of each other's energy. That's what we do great.
Khobie Martin | RB | Third Year
On how he's a different player from a year ago...
KM: Before last year I was still trying to adjust, learn the plays, learn my position, do whatever I can on the field, just make sure the team can benefit in anyway. I feel like I was still a little bit young. So, this year I feel like I grew up a little bit, matured some more.
I meal prep, so this meal prep has really taken my weight and just my body composition to a different level. I feel like I've got a lot more muscle in my arms, toned down a little bit, had a little bit of baby fat, now I've got more of a grown man body.
On how Lee (Beebe Jr.) and Turbo (Richard) fit into the room replacing Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black...
KM: First off, I want to say that Kaelon and Ro were great leaders. So, Lee, Turbo, they already have a lot of experience. I can look up to them, I can look at them and say ok they've got some more experience than me, learn from what they see on the field, whatever moves they read, how to study and watch film. So, I look at them almost the same way I look at Roman and KB. Guys in the running back room giving great competition, but also at the same time helping me improve my game. So, leaders, learn by leaders.
On improving in pass protection and receiving...
KM: I feel like I improved in a lot of areas, pass pro and receiving is definitely one of them, as well. I think I grew a lot in that area.
Turbo Richard | RB | Third Year
On how he is feeling midway through fall camp...
TR: Being at practice and having those shorter practices, it gives us time to recoup, making sure we are on top of everything at game speed and being as consistent as we can: treating every practice rep like a game rep. Then, when you get to the game, you play with those winning habits that you build in practice.
On drill work that helps with ball security...
TR: Just working after practice, and before practice, on ball security. Making sure that it doesn't happen again. Taking all of the reps I can: double and trouble, high and tight. Just building those winning habits and taking those into the game. But, it all starts in practice.
On if his role changes in this offense from his previous school...
TR: I am just grateful to take on a role of doing what I can in this offense. I feel like Coach Shanahan - I love his offense - he runs a great offense and puts us in situations that we need to be in to execute our job. I feel like playing in the role I am, I can do everything I can do to help us win championships and win games.
