Hoosier Game Notes:
One Final Road Trip
This weekend's games against Maryland and American are the final two road games of Indiana's regular season schedule. The Hoosiers will square off in a Big Ten battle against No. 6 Maryland, currently unbeaten in conference play. They will conclude the weekend with an out-of-conference contest against ehe American Eagles. IU vs. Maryland will feature an audio stream broadcast, and IU vs. American will stream live via the Patriot League digital network on Campus Insiders.
Big Ten's Best
Two members of the Indiana Field Hockey team received weekly honors from the Big Ten as a result of their successes last weekend. Junior defender Kate Barber (two goals, one assist) was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, and Noëlle Rother (12 saves, two shutouts) was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Shutout Win at Ohio State
Indiana took care of business on Friday against Ohio State, posting a 3-0 shutout win. The victory was their first shutout this season, and their first shutout over Ohio State in program history. Kate Barber led the way with two goals, followed by Rachel Stauffer with one goal and one assist, and Claire Woods with one assist. Noëlle Rother recorded eight saves in her first career shutout.
Defense Shines vs Penn State
The Hoosiers followed their first shutout win of the season against Ohio State with another shutout over Penn State, 1-0. Sydney Supica scored the decisive goal on an untimed penalty corner at the close of the first half, and Indiana held off a Penn State attack that totaled 17 shot attempts.
Taking on the Terrapins
Indiana faces the Big Ten's best, No. 6 Maryland, on Friday night under the lights of Maryland's Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. The Hoosiers' first meeting against Maryland occurred last season, in which the Terrapins emerged with the win. The Indiana defense faces an attack led by Welma Luus and Linnea Gonzales, who have combined for 22 goals and four assists this season.
Battle in the Nation's Capital
The Hoosiers conclude their 2015 away schedule on Sunday with a game at American University. This game is a chance to lift Indiana to a .500 record in their out-of-conference schedule, but the win will be hard-earned against one of the best teams in the Patriot League. The Eagles feature a balanced attack, with six players scoring three or more goals this season.
