Annual all-start contest set to play on the NCAA Championship weekend
CHANDLER, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced Monday their selections to the Victory Sports Tours / NFHCA Division I Senior Game, which will take place on Saturday, November 19 at 2:30 p.m. Hoosier midfielder Kate Barber was named to the 38-woman roster, marking the third consecutive year with an Indiana Hoosier in the all-star showcase.
In the weekend prior to her nomination, Barber shattered two of Indiana's season scoring records during the Hoosiers' conference closer at No. 6 Penn State. With her two goals, Barber completed the highest single-season scoring tally, breaking Lydia Schrott's 11-year record of 17 goals. Barber also broke the single-season points record with 40 this season, two more than Morgan Fleetwood earned in 2012.
Barber's scoring pace was the fastest in the nation through the first five weeks of the season, as she racked up 15 in the Hoosiers' first 10 games.
This nomination joins a lengthy list of career achievements for Barber, who picked up third team All-American honors from the NFHCA and Synapse Sports last season along with All-Big Ten first team selections in 2015 and 2016. Away from the pitch, Barber's scholastic achievements have garnered two Academic All-Big Ten honors and a selection to the NFHCA National Academic Squad last season.
Barber becomes the 14th Hoosier to play in the NFHCA Division I Senior Game since 2003, joining Sydney Supica (2015) and Audra Heilman (2014) as consecutive selections. Supica gave a strong showing at last year's senior game, scoring a hat trick to give her team the win while playing her final game in the Indiana uniform in her hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
This season's iteration will commence at 2:30 p.m. ET on championship weekend at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on the campus of Old Dominion University in Roanoke, Virginia. The game will be played between Friday's NCAA semifinal games and the NCAA Championship game on Sunday. The honorees will split into two teams in the coming days.
