EAST LANSING, Mich.—Indiana Field Hockey opened up Big Ten Conference play by snagging a 4-2 win on the road Friday afternoon against No. 23 Michigan State. The Hoosiers scored off four penalty corners and sophomore Hailey Couch recorded a hat trick for the first time in her career.

KEY MOMENTS
• In the 14^thminute the Hoosiers took the first lead on a goal from Couch that was assisted by sophomore Maddie Boehm.
• Michigan state evened up the game in the 17^thminute on a goal by freshman Nienke Bloemsaat that was assisted off of a penalty corner by sophomore Aisha Osinga and junior Cara Bonshak.
• The Hoosiers regained the lead in the 24^thminute on a goal by Couch that came off of a penalty corner.
• Couch completed the hat trick in the 26^thminute on a goal off of a penalty corner that was assisted by sophomore Mary Kate Kesler
• Junior Meredith Ross pulled the Spartans within one in the 34^thminute and was assisted by sophomore Isa van der Weij.
• Giese sealed the win for the Hoosiers in the 46^thminute with a goal off of a corner that was assisted by senior Andi Jackson and freshman Victoria Hill.

NOTABLES

• With the victory, Indiana improves to 4-3 on the season.
• The Hoosiers are now 1-0 in conference play for the first time since 2015.
• Indiana picked up their first win over a ranked opponent since they beat No. 15 Wake Forest on Sept. 1, 2017.
• Sophomore Forward Hailey Couch recorded the first hat trick for the Hoosiers since Ciara Girouard did it at Villanova on Sept. 4, 2017. The sophomore has now recorded five goals this season.
• Junior goalkeeper Sachi Ananias recorded six saves in the game and has 37 on the season.
• Indiana took seven penalty corners in the first half to Michigan State's one and scored on three. The Hoosiers only took one in the second half.
• All four Indiana goals came off of penalty corners.
• Michigan State outshot the Hoosiers 15-13.
• Senior Andi Jackson picked up her second assist of the season and Hill picked up the first assist of her career.
