
Indiana Wins 11 Events at Indiana Early Bird Meet

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's and women's track and field opened up the 2024-25 season at their annual Indiana Early Bird Meet. The Hoosiers won 11 events and combined for 42 personal bests at Gladstein Fieldhouse on Friday.
The day opened up with a win in the men's pentathlon from sophomore Garrett Messer. He won with a personal best score of 3840. Teammate Max Grangier also earned a personal best score of 3437 and a fourth-place finish.
On the women's side, freshman Elle Knepp scored a 2931 in her first collegiate pentathlon.
The sprinters got off to a fast start in the Early Bird meet. Freshman Aliyah Johnson ran a 7.39 in the 60-meter finals to finish second. Her time ranks sixth in the program's all-time list and is currently No. 10 in the nation.
Junior John Colquitt ran a massive PR in the 60-meter hurdle finals. He qualified with a time of 8.08 and ran the finals in 7.96 which ranks third on Indiana's all-time list in the event and is No. 20 in the nation.
The distance squad showed out in the Mile with nearly a sub-four-minute mile from third-place finisher Martin Segurola. He ran a personal best time of 4:00.58.
Indiana saw four freshmen in the women's mile, and all placed in the top 10. Joey Rastrelli led the pack in third (5:02.37) followed by Maddie Rocchio in fifth (5:03.12), Michaela Quinn in seventh (5:07.05) and Jessica Hegedus in 10th (5:19.32).
Keeping up with the freshmen, Hannah Alexander had a great performance in the women's weight throw. She won the event with a mark of 18.61m/61-0.75.
Freshmen shot-putters Seth Brosseau and Dane Sebert went 4-5 in the event in their collegiate debut. Brosseau landed a mark of 17.01m/55-9.75 with Sebert right behind with a distance of 16.87m/55-4.25.
Continuing in the field, Kelly Moran picked up a second-place finish in the women's long jump. She earned a personal best of 5.93m/5.50 for a second-place finish.
Mahogany Jenkins also earned a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.68m/5-6 to open the season.
The Hoosiers ended the night with eight event wins including a 400 meter sweep from freshmen Katelyn Henselmeier (56.48) and CJ Martin (48.44), Amelia Dodds in the 600 meters (1:32.86), Trelee Banks in the 200 meters (21.44), Novo Onovwerosuoke in the 300 meter sprint (34.34), Andrew Mangum in the 800 meters (1:55.48), Tyler Carrel in the Pole Vault (5.10m/16-8.75) and a men's 4x400 relay (3:16.34) win.
