Higgs Scores Buzzer Beater Against No. 22 Brown; No. 12 Indiana Stays Undefeated

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior goalie Jasmine Higgs played the part of hero against No. 22 Brown with a buzzer-beating game winning goal as Indiana stayed undefeated with wins over La Salle (16-11) and tournament host Brown (16-15) on Saturday.

KEY MOMENTS VS. LA SALLE

Indiana used two goals each from senior Grace Hathaway and Portia Sasser to take a 4-2 edge after one. Junior Grace Klingler took advantage on a penalty shot early in the second to keep IU's lead at two, 5-3.
Senior Sophia Sollie scored her first goal at the 6:16 mark on a quick turaround toss that found the back of the net. Senior Skylar Kidd floated one in the net right before the break to help Indiana go up by three, 7-4.
La Salle put up back-to-back goals in the third, but junior Nicole Tyner ended the run with 5:09 to play. The Explorers, however, owned the third quarter and even cut the deficit to one but junior Louisa Downes scored on a powerplay to make it a 10-8 lead going to the fourth.
Klingler and sophomore Nancy Baylor-Sefchick combined to recorded back-to-back goals in the fourth to push IU's lead to four with nearly five and a half minutes to play. Senior Claire Witting's goal off a rebound put Indiana up by five with 2:30 to play and the game out of reach.

KEY MOMENTS VS. BROWN

Junior Louisa Downes scored two goals in the opening quarter including one on a steal and score to make it a 4-3 game. Stark took advantage of an exclusion on the Brown goalie with 1:33 to go as Indiana led 5-4 after one complete.
Both teams scored five goals each in the second quarter, as Downes notched her hat trick in the frame and helped Indiana keep a one-goal lead at the break, 10-9.
Kidd scored her first goal of the game with 4:18 left in the third quarter to give Indiana a 12-10 advantage. It was part of a 4-1 run to give IU its largest lead of the game 14-11 on a Tyner goal to complete her hat trick.
It turned into just a one-goal lead for Indiana at the 5:32 mark, Sasser pushed the Hoosier lead back to two on a 5-meter penalty shot with 3:33 to go. With the game tied bac k up at 15-all, Indiana couldn't capitalize on a 6-on-5 opportunity while the Bears came up empty with just 11 seconds remaining.
In a last second heave, Higgs sailed one down off the crossbar and into the goal as the Hoosiers took the late victory over the host school.

NOTES

Klinger had a career-high five goals on five shots in the win over La Salle.
Higgs tallied up 13 saves in the win over the Explorers. She also had a pair of assists, a goal and a steal.
Senior Olivia Stark added two steals, two assists and a field block. Sasser and Downes also collected two assists each for a total of 11 against La Salle. Sasser also put up a hat trick in the win.
Three players recorded hat tricks against Brown, with Downes, Sasser and Tyner all reaching the feat.
Higgs added five steals with her game-winning goal against the Bears, to accompany two assists.
Hathaway drew a team-high four exclusions.
Sasser turned in five more assists in the game two win and now has a team-high 21 assists on the season.
