BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana track and field closed the first day of the Windy City Classic at the Gately Stadium on Friday (February 14) with four event wins and many personal bests on the day.
"The Windy City Invitational serves as an excellent preparatory event for us as we approach the Big Ten meet," said assistant coach Megan Tomei.
"Though our team is still developing, their performance is improving. They continue to show resilience and determination against a strong field of competitors."
The day started with the weight throw events. Tyler Reyna (19.10m/62-8) and Hannah Alexander (19.32m/63-4.75) lead the Hoosiers to sweep the event on the men's and women's side, respectively.
On the track, Indiana saw plenty of success, starting with the 600m. Ryann Parrish (1:32.55) and Cambell Wamsley (1:34.51) finished third and eighth respectively in the women's event. CJ Martin (1:18.14) topped the podium on the men's side.
The Hoosiers saw multiple athletes qualify for tomorrow's event finals.
Olivia Gee earned a spot in the women's 60-meter hurdles, while Tyler Tarter (8.06), John Colquitt (8.13), and Garrett Messer (8.21) all qualified for the men's 60-meter hurdles.
Tamer Saleh (6.71) and Trelee Banks (6.77) both qualified for the men's 60-meter final and placed third and seventh respectively in the finals. Both of those times are good for top-ten times in school history.
In the 5000-meter, Claire Overfelt (16:35.99) and Abe Eckman (14:11.50) set new personal bests to finish fourth and fifth respectively.
Day one finished with the mile run where Lily Myers (4:43.50) placed sixth in the women's event. The final event of the day saw Martin Segurola win the men's mile in a personal best 3:56.43.
