Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Indiana track and field made a strong showing in the first day of The Crimson Tide Invitational at Bernie Moore Stadium on Friday (April 11) with several personal bests and high finishes to start the weekend.
"We definitely had a step in the right direction, finishing day one with a lot of PR's along with some far fouls," said assistant coach Megan Tomei.
"We'll make the changes to make those throws legal in the weeks to come. I'm proud of this group and looking forward to what's on the horizon."
The women's hammer throw started the day's events, with two Hoosiers placing in the top ten. Hannah Alexander (54.47m/178.8) threw a personal best to place second with Bridget Beyer (51.16m/167-10) also placing eighth overall.
The men's side had great performances as well. Nikolaos Sidirenios (60.62m/198-11) threw the ninth farthest distance in school history to win the event, followed by a personal best from Tyler Reyna (58.63m/192-4), who finished third. Hunter Smith also threw a personal best (55.18m/181) to finish eighth overall.
Sean Mockler earned the Hoosiers another podium finish, placing second (65.88m/216-2) in the hammer throw invite.
Alexander continued her strong start to the weekend, finishing third (50.22m/164-9) in the women's discus invite.
Caleb Smith competed in his first discus event as a Hoosier, finishing eighth with a mark of 49.63m/162-10.
Indiana finished the day on the track with the 5,000-meter run. Ines Herault and Garrett Hicks each ran personal best times to finish second and fourth, respectively.
