
Indiana Defeats Washington, Advances to Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –––– No. 10 Seed Indiana took care of No. 7 Seed Washington in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday afternoon, winning 2-0 at Bittinger Stadium.
Brianna Copeland led the Hoosiers in a complete game win. The senior had seven strikeouts and only gave up two hits.
The Hoosiers will face UCLA in the quarterfinals tomorrow for the next round of the tournament.
With the win, Indiana is now 33-17 on the season.

KEY MOMENTS
• In the bottom of the first with two runners on,Washington's Jade Bubke hit a ball to the wall in dead center where Melina Wilkison robbed the would-be home run at the fence to keep the score at 0-0.
• The Indiana defense held strong through the bottom of the second, finishing a three-up, three-down inning. The first out was when Taylor Minnick made a diving catch in left field.
• Copeland threw two-straight strikeouts to end the frame.
• Indiana got the bats going in the top of the third when Alex Cooper tripled to right field.
• Two at bats later, Minnick lined out to second and as Washington tried to get Copeland out, Cooper took home to put Indiana up 1-0.
• Avery Parker started out the sixth inning with a crushed ball over the left center wall to extend Indiana's lead to 2-0.
• Washington had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the sixth before Indiana got out of the jam.
• Alycia Flores lined out to Madalyn Strader and then Strader dove to tag third base and complete the unassisted double play. Then, Copeland threw her seventh strikeout of the game to finish out the inning.

• Copeland's win improved her season record to 17-7. Each of her last three wins have been complete-game efforts. Copeland only allowed two hits and had seven strikeouts in the shutout.
• This was the first game between Indiana and Washington as conference opponents in softball.
