BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Following a pair of Big Ten road contests, Indiana men's soccer (12-1-2, 5-1-1 B1G) returns to its fortress at Bill Armstrong Stadium Friday night, hosting Northwestern (5-5-3, 2-3-2 B1G) late in conference play.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Fans unable to attend can watch the match via the B1G+ digital platform.
Friday's match is IU faculty and staff appreciation night at Armstrong Stadium. The first 150 faculty/staff members at the match will receive an IU Soccer duffel bag.
KICKING OFF
• Tied atop the table with 16 points, the Hoosiers remain in control of their Big Ten destiny with three league games to play – against Northwestern Friday, at UCLA in a week (Oct. 30) and against co-leader Michigan State at home on Nov. 4. Washington also has a stake in the regular season title race with 13 points and a game in hand on IU and MSU. The Huskies and Spartans will face off concurrently Friday night.
• Indiana is coming off a Big Ten road win at Ohio State, as Easton Bogard's 41st-minute goal made the difference in the 1-0 result. The Hoosiers earned their seventh clean sheet, and Michal Mroz made four saves in the match.
• IU has a 10-0-0 record at home this season, outscoring visitors 28-5 and earning five shutouts.
• Mroz was one of four Hoosiers featured in Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 list, which included Oliver Moller-Jensen (No. 5), Mroz (22), Maher (27), Njike (34).
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
• Northwestern is winless in its last four, with an 0-2-2 mark in that span. The Wildcats drew, 1-1, with No. 10 UCLA on Monday.
• Peter Riesz leads Northwestern with four goals and 11 points. Italo Addimandi has also scored four goals this season.
• Head coach Russell Payne leads Northwestern in his sixth season, carrying a 41-40-18 record during his time in Evanston as well as a 110-125-49 career record in 17 seasons as a head coach.
SERIES HISTORY
• Indiana has historically dominated the series with Northwestern, winning 37 of the 49 meetings. The Hoosiers won the first 20 matchups between 1983-2003.
• In the last four seasons, the host has won the matchup – perhaps a good sign for Indiana, Friday's home team. The Hoosiers have lost to Northwestern just once at home, boasting a 20-1-3 record in such matches.
