Hoosiers Drop Close Match to No. 22 USC, 4-3

Bloomington, Ind. — Indiana men's tennis lost a tight match against the No. 22 USC Trojans, 4-3, today at home in the IU Tennis Center.
Indiana started the day by keeping their momentum in doubles rolling, with the No. 33-ranked duo of Sam Landau and Jip van Assendelft clinching the doubles point for Indiana in a tight 7-6 match, with the duo clinching the tiebreaker 10-8. At No. 2 doubles, the No. 57-ranked doubles team of Michael Andre and Matteo Antonescu defeated USC's Branko Djuric and Connor Church, 6-4. By clinching the doubles point today, Indiana improves to 9-2 on the season in the doubles competition.
In the singles competition, Aidan Atwood continued his dominant weekend by winning his match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0. After going 2-0 at No. 6 singles this weekend, Atwood improves to 5-1 on the season in dual matches. At No. 5 singles, Braeden Gelletich defeated USC's Connor Church, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Gelletich trailed the third set 2-0 but was able to rally back and cruise to a 6-3 victory in the set. At No. 2 and No. 3 singles, Jip van Assendelft and Facundo Yunis both lost tight matches that went three sets.
After playing USC and UCLA at home this weekend, Indiana will return the favor and head out to the West Coast next weekend, where the Hoosiers will face off against Oregon (Mar. 13) and Washington (Mar. 15).
