Indiana Secures 4-0 Win on Senior Day

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The No. 64 Indiana men's tennis team closed out its home schedule in style Sunday, defeating No. 58 Nebraska 4-0 on Senior Day at the IU Tennis Center.
Indiana secured the doubles point by winning courts No. 2 and No. 3. Senior duo Jip van Assendelft and Facundo Yunis won at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, over Joan Torres Espinosa and Leo Linquet, while Sam Landau and Braeden Gelletich clinched the point with a 7-6 (7-3) victory over Henry Lamchinniah and Colson Wells at No. 3, improving their record to 7-0 as a doubles team, with all matches taking place in Big Ten play. Nebraska took No. 1 doubles, 7-5, as Henry Bilicic and Nikolay Sysoev defeated Michael Andre and Matteo Antonescu.
In singles play, Indiana won at courts No. 2, 3, and 5 to clinch the match. Michael Andre started off the scoring with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Leo Linquet at No. 2, followed by Facundo Yunis defeating Colson Wells 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3. Aidan Atwood sealed the win for Indiana with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 comeback victory over Niels Van Der Sijs at No. 5, clinching the 4-0 victory for the Hoosiers before the three other courts could finish.
Indiana honored five seniors following the match: Michael Andre, Jip van Assendelft, Deacon Thomas, Luc Boulier, and Facundo Yunis.
Two seniors were able to secure singles wins today. For Michael Andre, his senior day win today marked his 40th career singles win with the Hoosiers. In doubles this season, Andre and his teammate Matteo Antonescu are currently ranked No. 37 and have a 10-3 record in dual matches. Facundo Yunis also secured himself a singles and doubles win today, earning him a 37-25 record in singles and a 43-22 record in doubles during his time with the Hoosiers.
Indiana improves to 10-10 overall and 4-7 in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers will finish the season on the road next weekend against Michigan and Michigan State.
