Indiana Men's Tennis Closes Regular Season on the Road Against Michigan State, Michigan

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The No. 55 Indiana men's tennis team will close out its regular season this weekend on the road when it travels to Michigan to play No. 23 Michigan State on Friday (April 17, 4 p.m.) and No. 39 Michigan on Sunday (April 19, noon).
Indiana is coming off its last home weekend, which saw the team lose to No. 35 Wisconsin 4-0 and defeat No. 58 Nebraska 4-0 on Senior Day. The Hoosiers enter the weekend with a 10-10 record in dual matches and a 4-7 Big Ten record, placing them ninth in the conference standings.
The team rose nine spots to No. 55 in the ITA rankings, and Indiana still has four teams ranked in doubles. The top team is Matteo Antonescu and Michael Andre, who come in at No. 39. Antonescu and Andre have a 10-3 record this season, playing at both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots. Notably, the duo knocked off Nikita Flinn and Brandon Carpico, the nation's No. 1 doubles team, when Indiana played Ohio State on March 20. Jip van Assendelft and Sam Landau are ranked No. 44 with a 4-2 record at No. 1 doubles. Sam Landau and Braeden Gelletich enter at No. 55 as the team with the most momentum, boasting a 7-0 record, all in Big Ten matches. Facundo Yunis and Sam Landau round out Indiana's ranked doubles teams at No. 82.
Michigan State enters the match with a 13-8 record and a 10-1 Big Ten mark, placing the Spartans tied with Ohio State atop the conference standings. The Spartans have notable wins over No. 1 Ohio State on the road (4-3), No. 10 Illinois (4-3), No. 24 USC (4-3) and No. 20 UCLA (4-2). Three Spartans are ranked in singles: No. 16 Matthew Forbes, No. 27 Aristotelis Thanos and No. 56 Ozan Baris. In doubles, Michigan State has three ranked teams: No. 31 Taym Alazmeh and Danial Rakhmatullayev, No. 42 Aristotelis Thanos and Mitchell Sheldon, and No. 75 Ozan Baris and Matthew Forbes.
Michigan enters the weekend coming off its biggest win of the season, handing Michigan State its first Big Ten loss with a 4-3 victory. The Wolverines hold an 11-9 overall record and a 6-5 Big Ten mark, placing them seventh in the conference standings. Two Wolverines are ranked in singles: No. 6 Max Dahlin and No. 45 Bjorn Swenson. Michigan also has two ranked doubles teams: No. 21 Max Dahlin and Bjorn Swenson, and No. 52 Max Dahlin and Pierce Shaya.
