Hoosiers Ride Home Run Party in Road Win
4/14/2026 11:30:00 PM | Baseball
A windy night at Bob Warn Field provided the boost that IU needed for a massive offensive effort. Five different players hit home runs, led by a pair of long balls from sophomore outfielder Caleb Koskie. Batters three through seven in the order combined to go 14-25 with four home runs and 10 RBIs. In total, six different players had multi-hit games.
Redshirt junior outfielder Ayden Crouse continues to play well in the absence of sophomore outfielder Hogan Denny. He had three hits including the game-tying home run in the fourth inning. He finished a double short of the cycle after finishing a triple shy of the feat in Sunday's contest at Maryland. Sophomore shortstop Cooper Malamazian ended short of a cycle by a double as well.
Senior southpaw Anthony Gubitosi (W, 1-0) was IU's best pitcher of the contest, helping to settle the game down after Indiana State plated five in the first inning. He racked up three strikeouts and scattered just one hit in two scoreless frames. Redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Evan O'Neill and freshman right-handed pitcher Kellen English each put up zeros in their respective outings.
Tuesday's win was the fifth time that IU has hit six home runs or more in a game under head coach Jeff Mercer. It was also the seventh time that one of his teams has provided 20-or-more hits in a single contest. 10 of the 11 position players recorded at least one hit. It is the first win IU has had while giving up double-digit runs since March 16, 2024 (vs. Belmont).
It will be a quick turnaround this week as IU prepares to finish out the midweek slate tomorrow (April 15) against Evansville. First pitch from Bart Kaufman Field is set for 6 p.m. on B1G+. It's the first of four-straight home games for the Hoosiers.

Inside the Box Score
• Six of IU's nine starters had multi-hit games. Four different players had at least three base knocks.
• Between hits, walks and hit-by-pitches, IU reached base 30 times.
• Cooper Malamazian and Ayden Crouse each finished a double short of the cycle.
Notes to Know
• Sophomore outfielder Caleb Koskie went yard twice for his first career multi-home run game. In the process, he extended his hitting streak to 17-consecutive games. That's the longest streak by an IU player in a single season since Sam Travis (17 – 2012) during his freshman campaign 14 years ago. Koskie also recorded his second multi-hit game in the proceedings.
• IU slugged six home runs in the win over Indiana State – hit by five different players. It's the fifth time in the head coach Jeff Mercer era that his team has hit six-or-more home runs in a single game. It is the first such occurrence since Feb. 28, 2025 against Mount St. Mary's. The Hoosiers also produced their seventh 20-plus hit performance under the eighth-year skipper – first since March 7, 2025 (at Penn State).
• The five-RBI effort for Koskie – sparked by the three-run home run – was the fifth of his career with four-or-more batted in. In fact, he has as many games in his career with four-plus RBIs (5) as he does with just one (5). Koskie has 11 multi-hit efforts this year and seven multi-hit performances.
• Freshman catcher Owen ten Oever pinch hit in a big spot on Tuesday with the bases loaded. He chopped a single up the middle to score a pair of runs. It's his fifth hit in a pinch hit opportunity this season. In fact, he's hitting .555 (5-9) when coming in directly off the bench this year. Two of those occasions have produce multi-run hits.
