Indiana Goes the Distance to Secure Series at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa ––– After a quick first win of the series and Saturday doubleheader, Indiana and Iowa went 10 innings with the Hoosiers taking the win to make it a 2-0 Saturday to secure the series.
Indiana won the first game in 2-1 fashion before winning 9-7 in 10 innings in game two. It was the second 10-inning game in the past three games for the Hoosiers.
With today's wins, Indiana is now 34-11 on the season and 12-5 in the Big Ten.

KEY MOMENTS (Game 1)
• In the top of the second, Aly VanBrandt singled to the pitcher to bring home Brooke Mannon and put Indiana in the lead, 1-0.
• The Hoosiers used two-straight 1-2-3 innings with an Aubree Hooks strikeout to punctuate the end of the bottom of the second.
• Iowa tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth when Kiara Sipe homered to center field in the bottom of the fourth.
• With the bases loaded, Aly VanBrandt snagged a line drive out of the air to get the third out and keep the score at 1-1 through four.
• Indiana pulled back ahead in the top of the fifth on Ellie Goins' sacrifice fly to right field which brought Jada Ellison home to bring the score to 2-1.
• Iowa got two on base in the bottom of the seventh, but Ellie Goins tracked the ball in center field to catch the final out and secure the win.
KEY MOMENTS (Game 2)
• After a hitless first inning, Josie Bird started Indiana off in the second inning with a double to left center.
• Josie White singled to shortstop to bring Jada Ellison and Hannah Haberstroh home and put the Hoosiers up 2-0 in the top of the second.
• Iowa cut into the lead and make it 2-1 in the bottom of the second as Echo Matiello hit a sac fly to left and scored Mariah Myers.
• The Hawkeyes tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Nailyn Marshall to tie the game at 2-2.
• Iowa pulled ahead in the bottom of the sixth with a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded before a bases-clearing triple and an RBI single to put the Hawkeyes up 7-2.
• Indiana got the bases loaded in the top of the seventh and started to cut into the lead with Hannah Haberstroh scoring on an error to make it 7-3. Josie Bird singled to left and score two more to cut the deficit down to 7-5. Madalyn Strader cleared the bases with a double to right center to make it 7-7.
• With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Indiana pulled off an extensive double play in a rundown to send the game to extra innings.
• The Hoosiers and Hawkeyes played two scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth to reach the 10th frame at 7-7.
• Indiana broke the tie with a Brooke Mannon RBI single to score Alli Gavin before Cassidy Kettleman singled to left to bring Ellie Goins home and make it 9-7.
NOTABLES
• Indiana has won seven of its last eight games and six consecutive Big Ten games.
• Indiana has won five of its six Big Ten series, including its last two.
• Aubree Hooks picked up wins in both of the games today to improve her season record to 9-2.
• Four Hoosiers had two hits in the second game: Josie Bird, Hannah Haberstroh, Cassidy Kettleman and Brooke Mannon.
• The Hoosiers have played in their first two extra-inning games this week, with both going to 10 innings.
