BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Midweek action comes to a conclusion on Tuesday (April 28) evening in Louisville. The Indiana Baseball team (19-25, 6-15 B1G) will take on Louisville to wrap up the month of April at Jim Patterson Stadium. IU heads into the week with an 8-2 record in midweek contests and will look to put the punctuation on a fantastic slate of Tuesday games this season.
Freshman designated hitter Owen ten Oever, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week, burst onto the scene as a starter this past weekend. He hit .533 in four contests with a pair of home runs and six RBIs. He's the 15th different IU player to earn a Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor under head coach Jeff Mercer. It's the fifth-straight year that multiple players have won the award in the same season.
Graduate student left-handed pitcher Conner Linn will get the starting nod in the Tuesday tilt against Louisville. His last midweek start was a spectacular five-inning, scoreless performance against Evansville. IU will have a handful of arms lined up behind him including senior southpaw Anthony Gubitosi.
First pitch in Louisville is set for 6 p.m. on ACCNX. IU's final nine regular season games are all weekend contests in conference play. A trip to Northwestern will kick start the month of May this weekend (May 1-3) in both Chicago and Evanston.

MIDWEEK SUCCESS: Indiana is 8-2 in midweek games this year entering the final one of the year. The offense has been on a tear in those games, hitting .354 with 21 home runs and 98 RBIs. Sophomore outfielder Caleb Koskie has a .571 batting average in midweek contests on the season.
MAJOR MASTALSKI: Freshman right-handed pitcher Ivan Mastalski leads the team in appearances (19) and is likely to pitch in his 20th game of the season on Tuesday. He holds a 3.89 ERA and a 33-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his debut campaign in Bloomington.
CLOSE TO 100: Sophomore outfielder Hogan Denny is closing in on 100 career hits in an IU uniform. He sits at 96 entering the week's action and would join his fellow sophomores Jake Hanley and Cooper Malamazian in that category. He's one of three IU players with 50+ hits this year.
RED HOT TO: Freshman designated hitter Owen ten Oever went on a tear last week, batting .533 over four games for the Hoosiers. He smashed a pair of home runs, including a grand slam in the first inning at Ball State. On the season, he's batting .333 with 15 hits.
STRAIGHT TO CAMPUS: Over 94 percent of IU's hits this season have been provided by homegrown players. Head coach Jeff Mercer is big on recruiting talented prep athletes to campus. Most of IU's starting lineups this season have been full of players that came to IU directly out of high school.
ENDING ON A HIGH NOTE: IU will look to wrap up the month of April with its 10th win in that timeframe. While its weekend against Iowa didn't go well, the month has been quite friendly for the Hoosiers. A win on Tuesday would also be the 20th of the season.
JUST JAKE: Sophomore first baseman Jake Hanley has started 100-straight games since arriving on campus. Only Dustin DeMuth (102 - 2011-12) has begun their career with more consecutive starts since the 2010 season. Hanley has collected 130 hits in that stretch of play as well.
Scouting the Opponent
Louisville
• The Cardinals are coming off a massive sweep of Clemson as they look to get back into the NCAA Tournament race. Louisville still needs to do work late in the year but have plenty of opportunities on the schedule to return to the big dance. Louisville went to the College World Series in 2025.
• Sophomore slugger Tague Davis anchors a dangerous offense for Louisville. He has 26 home runs and 77 RBIs on the year while slugging .896. Senior infielder Bayram Hot is hitting .366 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs. His 15 stolen bases are second to just veteran Lucas Moore (30).
• Besides its weekend starters, Louisville has struggled to find consistent pitching. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Jake Schweitzer has made a team best 18 appearances. Junior right-handed arm Jake Bean has been a regular in midweek contests this year.
Inside the Series
Louisville
• These two teams have played over 50 times but have really picked it up in the non-conference slate over the last 15 years. That includes a meeting in the 2019 Louisville Regional. This year, IU will head down to Louisville for the first time since 2022.
• Head coach Jeff Mercer is just 1-4 against the Cardinals but picked up a big win in 2023 on the way to an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament. The two sides have split the last 10 meetings.
