Indiana Men's Tennis Falls to No. 14 Illinois on the Road

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The No. 62 Indiana men's tennis team lost 4-0 on the road today to No. 14 Illinois in Champaign.
Illinois secured the doubles point early by winning two out of three doubles courts. Indiana's Jip van Assendelft and Facundo Yunis lost at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, to Gabriel Debru and Tyler Bowers, while Aidan Atwood and Matteo Antonescu lost at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, to David Bakonyi and Zach Viiala. The match at doubles No. 2 was abandoned with Indiana's No. 68-ranked duo, Sam Landau and Braeden Gelletich, leading the No. 52-ranked duo of Kenta Miyoshi and William Mroz, 3-2.
In singles play, Illinois closed out the match on courts six, four, and three. Zach Viiala defeated Braeden Gelletich 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles, while Adam Jilly topped Facundo Yunis 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4. Gabriel Debru, ranked No. 37, defeated Michael Andre 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3. Illinois clinched the victory, leaving three other singles matches unfinished.
Indiana falls to 9-8 overall and 3-5 in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers return to action Sunday at 11 a.m. ET when they travel to Evanston, Illinois, to face No. 68 Northwestern.
