Hoosiers Set for Road Tests Against No. 14 Illinois, No. 68 Northwestern

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The No. 62 Indiana men's tennis team prepares to face off against two ranked opponents on the road this weekend. On Friday (April 3), the Hoosiers will face No. 14 Illinois at 7 p.m. ET, and then the team will travel north to Evanston, Illinois, on Sunday (April 5), when it faces off against No. 68 Northwestern at 11 a.m. ET.
Indiana is coming off two straight Big Ten victories, defeating both Penn State and Purdue 4-1, bringing Indiana's overall record to 9-7 and improving its Big Ten record to 3-4, placing it in eighth place in the conference.
The Hoosiers have been dominant in doubles play so far this season, winning the doubles point in 13 out of their 16 matches so far this season. Indiana has now earned four doubles teams in the ITA rankings, tied for the most of any school with Ohio State. Michael Andre and Matteo Antonescu are Indiana's highest-ranked team, moving up from No. 62 to No. 36 after knocking off Ohio State's No. 1 duo of Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico, 6-3. Andre and Antonescu are now 10-2 in dual matches this season, with a perfect 5-0 mark in Big Ten play.
Not far behind them, Sam Landau and Jip van Assendelft come in at No. 41, with a 4-2 record in dual play this season and all matches taking place at No. 1 doubles. Sam Landau and Braeden Gelletich enter the rankings as the No. 68-ranked team boasting a 4-0 record in doubles, with all four victories coming in Indiana's last four matches. Lastly, Sam Landau and Facundo Yunis came in as the No. 73-ranked team.
Illinois currently has a 16-5 record and will play Indiana in the second game of a doubleheader, as they host Eastern Kentucky at 1:30 p.m. ET on Friday before playing the Hoosiers. The Fighting Illini started strong in Big Ten play, posting a 6-2 record with their only losses coming by way of No. 2 Ohio State and No. 28 Michigan State. Notably, Illinois has defeated No. 6 TCU, No. 8 Baylor, and No. 15 Duke. Illinois is currently ranked No. 4 in the Big Ten standings.
Illinois has three players ranked for singles and two teams ranked in doubles. Illinois' singles lineup is led by No. 17 Kenta Miyoshi, No. 37 Gabriel Debru, and No. 76 William Mroz. In doubles, Mroz and Miyoshi are the No. 52-ranked duo, while Miyoshi and Adam Jillt are the No. 56-ranked team.
For Northwestern, the Wildcats currently have a 13-10 record, with a 1-7 conference record that places them 13th in the Big Ten. Northwestern's only Big Ten victory came against the Washington Huskies, 4-2. Northwestern boasts the No. 18 doubles team of Carter Pate and Greyson Casey, who remain perfect this season with a 15-0 record in dual matches as a team.
