Indiana Field Hockey Opens Season against No.10 Miami (Ohio) and No.18 Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. ––– Indiana Field Hockey hits the road for its season opener against two ranked opponents on August 29 and August 30 at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky.

2025 Rewind

The Hoosiers won four of five games to close-out the regular season. Indiana ended the 2025 regular season with a 9-8 record and a 4-4 record in conference play.
Indiana Field Hockey saw back-to-back seasons with 9+ wins (2024,2025) with five ranked wins across both years.
The team boasts two victories against top 10 teams over two years, (2025 - beat No. 10 Maryland and 2024 - beat No. 7 Michigan). Both wins were on the road.
The Hoosiers 2025 season concluded with a 0-1 loss to No.3 seed Iowa in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.

Midwest on the Rise

With Field Hockey historically dominating internationally and on the domestic coasts, a rise of talent locally has brought a sleuth of talented players and successful seasons in recent years.
In the Preseason Penn Monto/ NFHCA DI National Coaches Poll, five of the top 20 teams are located in the midwest, including the No. 1 ranked team (Northwestern). The handful in the rankings demonstrate the fact that more top players are bringing their talents to midwestern schools.

Scouting the Competition

The Hoosiers will open play on Saturday against No.10 Miami (Ohio). Following the neutral site match against the RedHawks, Indiana Field Hockey will face No.18 Louisville on Sunday.
Miami concluded its 2025 season with a 16-5 overall record, including a close 3-2 win over the Hoosiers. Play was tied throughout the match until No.16 Miami scored in the 4th quarter to secure the win.
Louisville and Indiana last met in Bloomington, where the Hoosiers fell 5-4 against the Cardinals. Indiana has a 5-18 overall record in matches featuring Louisville. It boasts a 15-10 record all time against Miami (Ohio).
Coach Will Holt is back in Bloomington for his second stint as a coach at IU. He previously was with IU from 2020-21. He also served as an assistant coach at Louisville in two stints both when he was a student and in a full-time capacity (2022-24).

Overtime Tidbits

Indiana's Inés Garcia Prado, Molly Stutte and Mijntje Hagen were named to the Big Ten's preseason Players to Watch list.
Inés Garcia Prado, Mijntje Hagen and Gabriela Garayo Aranceta were featured on the 2026 NFHCA Division I Players to Watch List.
Upperclassmen Mijntje Hagen, Javi Baeza, Inés Garcia Prado look to get the team to new heights this season as team captains.
Indiana's roster bolsters a former high school duo who are once again playing together at the collegiate level. Javi Baeza and Charlotte Glasper played together at Shaker Heights High School (Ohio).
The Hoosiers further their international talent, expanding the number of countries represented on the team. Lily Freeman and Jessie Mauro came to Bloomington from England while Keke Sluiter, Isa Smulders and Mijntje Hagen travelled from the Netherlands. Agustina Gamonal is from Chile and Helen Grahe represents Germany. Spain boasts the highest representation with Celia Arroyo Cabezudo, Inés Garcia Prado, Berta Sáenz de Santa María and Gabriela Garayo Aranceta representing Spain in Bloomington.
Freshman Berta Sáenz de Santa María reunites on the field with Sophomore Celia Arroyo Cabezudo as the pair both attended Esclavas Del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. Alongside the duo, Gabriela Garayo Aranceta is also from Santander, Spain.
