Hoosiers Set to Face Iowa in B1G Opener, Non-Conference Matchup

IOWA CITY, IOWA. –––– Indiana Field Hockey continues its stretch on the road in Iowa City, Iowa, facing the No. 2 Iowa Hawkeyes on both Friday and Sunday. Friday's game will open the B1G schedule for the Hoosiers. It continues against Iowa on Sunday in a non-conference matchup.
It will play at 6 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

- Indiana Field Hockey will make its way to Iowa City, Iowa for a doubleheader against the No. 2 Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday, Sept. 18 and Sunday, Sept. 20.
- The game on Friday will open B1G play, starting at 5 p.m. at Grant Field. The contest on Sunday at 1 p.m. will be a non-conference match against Iowa to maximize travel efficiency.
- The Hawkeyes are going into the contest undefeated. They are coming off a sweep in the Midwest Challenge, defeating then No. 16 Miami of Ohio (2-1) and No.14 Louisville (4-1.)
- Looking to continue a four game win streak, IU is 6-25 all-time against Iowa. Its last victory was in 2024, defeating Iowa 2-1 in double overtime.
- The last time the pair met was in the 2025 B1G tournament. Iowa took the 1-0 win at Deborah Tobias Field in Bloomington, Ind.
- Indiana field hockey improved its neutral and road records last weekend, sweeping Cornell and Ball State. It has won four in a row, with the overall season record now sitting at 4-2.
- The Hoosiers started the weekend in a neutral site match against Cornell in Columbus, Ohio. They came in hot, with fourth year forward/midfielder Theresa Ricci scoring in the first minute of the match. In the second, IU defensive efforts would allow Cornell to take just one shot. As the third quarter began, Cornell's Uma Kading knocked in a goal to make it one-all (1-1). Charlotte Gasper knocked in a goal in the final minute of the third frame to give the Hoosiers a 2-1 advantage as play moved into the final quarter.
- On Sunday, in Muncie, Ind., Indiana defeated in-state foe Ball State 7-1.
- Despite a slow first quarter and the Cardinals taking the first goal, multiple Hoosiers completed opportunities in the circle. Mintje Hagen got the momentum started for IU, scoring back-to-back goals in the second quarter. Molly Stutte set a new career high with three goals in the match. IU set multiple season records in the Sunday contest.
- Through the beginning of the season, it has been evident that IU has found offensive power in the circle.
- In Sunday's match against Ball State, the Hoosiers boasted a season record of 36 (27 on goal) total shots, the program's sixth best of all time. The last time they notched that many shots was 38 against Saint Francis (Pa.) in 2025. The 7-1 victory was also the largest margin of victory against the Cardinals in history.
- The record setting contest on Sunday is one of five matches where IU has attempted over 20 shots this season. The streak started against Louisville on 8/30, where IU had 27 total shots, with 15 being on goal.
- The momentum continued in the home opener against New Hampshire, notching 25 total shots, with 14 being on goal. It only would improve in the following match against Central Michigan, recording 28 total shots and 18 shots on goal.
- It saw a slight decrease in the neutral site match against Cornell, yet still attempted 14 shots and eight on goal, with their opponent totalling just eight.
- In the 2025 season, Indiana averaged 15.5 shots per game. It is currently averaging 23.3.
- The 7-1 score on Sunday is the largest margin of victory since Sep.12, 2025. It is also the largest win against Ball State all-time, with the pair meeting 25 times.
- IU also had a season high on Sunday of 36 shots overall, with ten Hoosiers adding to the total. Stutte had the most attempts with eight, and set her career record of three goals in a single match.
- The Cream and Crimson also had a season high of 17 corners in the match.
- The early goal against Cornell was the third match in a row where the Hoosiers not only got on the board first, but scored within the first two minutes of the match.
- Isa Smulders played her first full match in the cage for the Hoosiers on Friday, also securing her first collegiate win as a goalkeeper.
- Stutte currently leads in goals (6) and assists (5) for the season.
- IU is sitting at 140 overall shots, with 87 being on goal.
