IOWA CITY, Iowa ––– Indiana field hockey fell in a close match against No.2 Iowa on Sunday afternoon at Grant Field in Iowa City, Iowa. It is now 5-3 overall and 1-0 in B1G play.

The game remained scoreless until the fourth quarter, when both teams scored a goal to make the score 1-1 at the end of regulation. The contest was forced to a shootout, where IU made three out of six attempts before falling 3-4 to Iowa.

KEY MOMENTS
• It was a slow start for both teams who found themselves in a back-and-forth battle on the defensive end. The Hoosiers were allotted two penalty corners in the first quarter. To close out the first, first year forward Agustina Garmonal found an opportunity in the circle, but it was blocked by Iowa goalkeeper Julia Claessens.
• Garmonal attempted the only shot in the second quarter, but her strike went wide. The half closed out with Iowa not being allowed a single shot, whereas Indiana was able to find four.
• The Hawkeyes picked up the pace in their offense after the break. In three shot attempts and two on goal, they were unable to add to the score. Third year goalkeeper Sadie Canelli put effort in the cage to add a save and prevent Iowa from knocking one in.
• The Hoosiers stayed busy in Iowa territory in the final minutes of the game. Second year midfielder Sydney Meltzer tried for two penalty corners. In the first penalty corner, fourth year midfielder Inés Garcia Prado had back-to-back blocked shots, giving Meltzer the opportunity to strike. Her attempt was saved by Iowa's goalkeeper. In the second Penalty Corner, second year forward/midfielder Molly Stutte had a chance at a shot that went wide.
• After a penalty corner opportunity was given to Iowa, they added the first goal of the day to get the 1-0 advantage in the 53rd minute.
• With Canelli now in the field, IU hustled in the end of the fourth to try and equalize the score. In the 57th minute, fourth year forward/midfielder Theresa Ricci did just that as she put one in the top of the net with the help of Stutte. At the end of regulation, the score was 1-1.
• With no team finding luck in the overtime period, the contest went to a shootout. Second year forward Celia Arroyo Cabezudo, third year forward Mintje Hagen and Stutte were successful in getting shots in for IU. Iowa ultimately took the advantage getting four shots in, making the final score 2-1 (4-3 PS.)

NOTABLES
• The last time Indiana had a contest go to a shootout was against Maryland in 2025, where it won 2-1 (2-0 PS.)
• Canelli had a season high of five saves, with two being in the penalty shot period.
• Despite playing a conference opponent, the match-up was non-conference due to an agreement between the two teams.
• Indiana totaled 12 shots throughout the game, with four being on goal. Garcia Prado had the most shots for the Hoosiers, adding three to the scoresheet.

• IU is back home on Saturday, September 26 to continue B1G play against No. 13 Michigan. The pair will play at noon at Deborah Tobias Field in Bloomington, Ind.
