Indiana plays their first home game of 2015 against the Miami Redhawks
The Hoosiers return from a 1-2 run in California last weekend with a win against Pacific and losses to Stanford and California. Indiana's two losses last weekend were in games decided by one goal apiece, and the Hoosiers have proven that they can play with some of the best teams in the nation. Indiana will look to their many-pronged attack, led by senior Karen Lorite (8 points, 3rd in Big Ten), to grab an early lead in Friday's game against Miami.
QUICK NOTES:
Back Home Again: Indiana will return to their home turf on Friday for the first time this season when they take the field against the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks. The Hoosiers have won their last five meetings against the Redhawks, most recently in a 1-0 away win in 2013.
Familiar Foes: Friday's matchup against Miami will be their second meeting this season. The Hoosiers and Redhawks met on August 19 in an exhibition game in Oxford, Ohio. Indiana won the regulation period, 3-2, with goals from Kate Barber, Maddie Latino, and Morgan Dye. In the penalty shootout, Indiana won 3-0 thanks to an astounding six saves from Hoosier keeper Noëlle Rother.
Redhawks Recon: The Miami Redhawks are off to a strong 3-2 start to their season, with their only losses coming against No. 7 Albany and No. 6 Stanford. Their three wins against Saint Louis, Pacific, and UC Davis were all shutouts. The Hoosiers are sure to face tough, familiar competition on Friday afternoon.
Gold Coast Tour: The Hoosiers traveled to California over Labor Day weekend for games against No. 6 Stanford, Pacific, and California. Indiana lost a close game to Stanford, won in comeback fashion over the Pacific Tigers, and fell 2-1 to the Cal Golden Bears.
SEASON PROSPECTUS:
A New Season, A New Era: Indiana Field Hockey welcomes three new coaches to the Hoosier family. Head coach Amanda Janney enters her first season as the head coach of the Hoosiers. She is joined by first-year coaches Kelly Terwilliger and Ayla Halus. The Hoosiers return 13 letterwinners from their 2014 campaign, including 2014 All-Big Ten selection Sydney Supica.
Six Pick Up Sticks: Six new Hoosiers will make their home debut on Friday: Freshmen Nora Aucker (Pennsylvania), Charlie Kaste (Germany), Noëlle Rother (Germany), Taylor Swope (Ohio), and Claire Woods (Missouri). Joining the five freshmen is redshirt sophomore Elle Hempt, who transfered to Indiana from Temple University.
Oh Captain, My Captain: Coach Janney has selected three captains to lead the Hoosiers both on and off the field this season. Senior forward Nicole Volgraf is joined by a pair of juniors, Kate Barber and Mollie Getzfread, as co-captains for the 2015 season.
