Indiana Falls 3-0 to No. 2 Iowa

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Field Hockey team dropped a closely-contested 3-0 match on Friday afternoon to No. 2 Iowa in the Big Ten Opener.
With the setback, IU falls to 4-3 (0-1) while Iowa improves to 7-0 (1-0) on the season.
KEY MOMENTS
• IU helm firm to its defensive game plan in the first period, holding off multiple Hawkeye offensive chances. Freshman goalie Arabella Loveridge made back-to-back saves to keep Iowa off the board.
• Iowa found the opener early in the second period. After Loveridge made the initial save, Ellie Holley was there to tap in the opener.
• Eight minutes later, Lokke Stribos grabbed a second for Iowa off the penalty corner.
• IU had a number of chances in the fourth period. The Hoosiers got three straight penalty corners, but the Iowa goalie made a handful of saves off of shots by freshman defender Yip van Wonderen.
• Iowa bagged the third goal with five minutes to go.
NOTABLES
• Loveridge made a career-high six saves in goal for IU.
• Van Wonderen had two shots on goal while sophomore forward Meghan Dillon added a shot as well.
• Senior midfielder Jes McGivern made her 50th career appearance for IU on Friday. She joins fellow senior midfielder Mary Kate Kesler as the only active players to play in 50-plus matches for the Hoosiers.
