9/19/2021 3:12:00 PM | Field Hockey
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After dominating the entire second half, the Indiana Field Hockey Team finally found the back of the net off a penalty-corner goal scored by redshirt sophomore defender Sydney Keld. Her second of the season was enough to give IU a 1-0 win to close out the weekend.
With the victory, IU moves to 5-3 (0-1) while Richmond drops to 1-6 (1-0) on the season.
KEY MOMENTS
• Richmond came out firing in the opening period with four shots in the first quarter. Freshman goalie Arabella Loveridge was able to make two saves to keep the Spiders off the board.
• After the halftime interval, IU's offense began to click. The Hoosiers earned seven penalty corners in the third period but struggled to find the breakthrough goal.
• Freshman midfielder Kira Curland and senior defender Mary Kate Kesler put a handful of shots on frame early in the fourth period but the Richmond goalie was equal to it to deny IU of a goal.
• Keld finally broke the deadlock on IU's 16th penalty corner of the afternoon. The insertion from freshman midfielder Sofia Arrebola Garcia and stop from freshman defender Yip van Wonderen was enough to give Keld time to shoot. Her shot flew past the keeper and into the back of the goal.
• IU's defense held on tightly at the end of the ballgame to preserve the clean sheet.
NOTABLES
• Keld's 52nd-minute goal was the second of the season. Van Wonderen recorded her third assist of the year on the goal while Arrebola Garcia added her second.
• Kesler and Curland combined for eight shots including five on frame.
• Loveridge recorded another shutout. This was her third of the season in her four wins.
• Both of Keld's goals on the season were game-winning goals, tying her for the team lead with two.
