
Indiana Field Hockey Set For Three-Game Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Field Hockey team (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) returns to action this Friday with a three-game slate over the extended holiday break. The Hoosiers will head to Ohio to play Miami (OH) on Friday afternoon before moving to Columbus to take on Lafayette College on Sunday morning. IU returns home on Monday afternoon for a matinee home opener with Bellarmine. The match will mark the first home contest for IU since 2019.

ALL-TIME SERIES
• This is the 21st all-time meeting between Indiana and Miami (OH). Miami won the previous matchup in 2019 with a 5-2 victory in Bloomington.
• IU and Lafayette will meet for the first time in the 21-year history of IU's Field Hockey program. After an opening weekend win over Davidson, IU's matchup with Lafayette marks the second time this season the Hoosiers will play an opponent for the first time ever.
• IU and Bellarmine will play for just the second time ever. In the first year of the Hoosier program, IU handled Bellarmine 4-0 in a neutral site match.
LAST TIME: 2020-2021 SEASON
• IU spent the entire 2020-2021 spring season on the road in Head Coach Kayla Bashore's second year in charge. The Hoosiers finished the campaign 1-14 overall and in conference play. Then-junior Peyton Becker's overtime winner on April 15th at Michigan State gave IU its first victory of the season.
WATCH LIST
• The Big Ten Conference named its Preseason Honorees on Wednesday, August 25th. Senior Hailey Couch, Senior Mary Kate Kesler and Freshman Kira Curland were named to the list for Indiana.
SCHOLAR ATHLETE
• Midfielder Mary Kate Kesler was named the IU Scholar Athlete of the Month for September. As a full-time student athlete, Kesler has maintained a cumulative 3.9 GPA in her time in Bloomington.
FRESH FACES
• Indiana welcomed seven newcomers to the roster for the 2021 season. Kayla Kiwak, Arabella Loveridge, Yip van Wonderen, Meredith Lee, Kira Curland, Maggie Carter and Sofia Arrebola Garcia all come to Bloomington to join the program.
TRAINING WITH THE BEST
• In June, forward Hailey Couch was named to the 2021-2022 U.S. Women's National Indoor Team
• Goalkeeper Arabella Loveridge was invited to the Hockey New Zealand U-18 National Camp in July.
RETURNING TALENT
• Mary Kate Kesler returns as last year's leading point scorer. The Louisville native scored seven points in a condensed spring season.
• After opting out for health and safety concerns, Hailey Couch returns to action as the team's active goal scorer. In her sophomore season, Couch bagged 10 goals enroute to Second Team All-Big Ten honors.
• Senior Jes McGivern (45) and Junior Kennedy Reardon (34) have each also played over 30 games in an IU uniform.
2021 CAMPAIGN
• The Hoosiers return to playing a full 19-game schedule after being limited to conference-only matchups in the spring.
• IU opened the season with a 3-2 victory over Central Michigan on the road. The following day, the Hoosiers dominated Davidson in a 4-0 win to cap off a perfect opening weekend.
HOT START
• IU's 2-0 start to the 2021 season was the first time it accomplished that feat since the 2014 campaign. As well, IU recorded its first team shutout since a victory over St. Louis on Sept. 13, 2019.
• The seven goals scored on the opening weekend matched the most IU's scored in its first two games since scoring nine goals in the first two matches of 2014.
• In the opening weekend, IU saw six different players combine for seven goals. Five different Hoosiers recorded assists and 17 of 21 players on the roster earned an appearance.
FRESHMEN SENSATIONS
• IU received an immediate impact from its freshmen class in the opening weekend. All seven players recieved game action.
• Goalkeeper Arabella Loveridge earned her first career win with a 3-2 victory in goal against Central Michigan.
• Midfielder Kira Curland was one of just two freshmen in the Big Ten to score two goals in her opening weekend contests.
• Forward Kayla Kiwak and midfielders Sofia Arrebola Garcia and Maggie Carter also scored goals in their first action in an IU uniform.
