
Indiana Beats Ball State Behind Strong Defensive Performance

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Indiana Field Hockey team kept its fifth clean sheet victory of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over in-state foe Ball State.
The victory moves the Hoosiers to 6-4 (0-2) on the campaign while Ball State falls to 3-7 (1-1).
KEY MOMENTS
• Ball State moved quickly on offense to open the match, earning a penalty corner within the first minute. IU stood tall to the challenge with redshirt sophomore defender Sydney Keld making the defensive save to keep Ball State off the board.
• IU won its first corner of the game in the eighth minute. Freshman midfielder Sofia Arrebola Garcia inserted the corner and fellow freshman midfielder Kira Curland fired off the shot, but it was saved by the Ball State goalie.
• The Hoosiers totaled five shots in the second period but couldn't find the opener in the first half.
• IU finally found Its breakthrough goal in the 38th minute. Sophomore forward Anna Gwiazdzinski found a pass from Arrebola Garcia and buried home the winning goal.
• Ball State pulled its goalkeeper with 3:40 to go but IU managed to fend off an extra attacker to preserve the clean sheet.

• Gwiazdzinski's goal was the second of the season for her and the third of her career. The assist for Arrebola Garcia was her third of the season.
