
Indiana Field Hockey to Face Bellarmine and No. 5 Louisville

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– After a week off, Indiana will play two games against the only two Kentucky-based schools in Division I Athletics that have varsity field hockey. On Sunday, Oct. 8, Indiana will play at Bellarmine. Then, on Oct. 10, Indiana will play a rare Tuesday game against No. 5 Louisville at Deborah Tobias Field.
WEEKEND REWIND:
-Last weekend was a tough one for the Hoosiers as the team dropped two home games.
-Indiana fell to No. 15 Michigan, 2-0, on Friday and No. 11 Ohio State, 3-0, in Sunday's game.
-While the scores might not indicate it, the Hoosiers fought valiantly in both games, but just came up short.
-Against Michigan, Indiana had a hard first quarter where the Wolverines pulled ahead 2-0 right out of the gate.
-From there, Indiana dominated the possession for the remainder of the game. The Indiana defense only allowed Michigan to take one other shot, leaving them shotless in the second and fourth periods.
-In total, Indiana outshot Michigan, 11-7, with seven of Indiana's shots being on goal. The Hoosiers also led in penalty corners taken with an advantage of 6-3.
-Ultimately, the team couldn't convert in getting the ball into the back of the cage.
-Michigan's goalkeeper, Caylie McMahon had a fantastic day, recording seven saves and holding off Indiana's attack.
-Against Ohio State, both teams were locked into a defensive battle at the start.
-At halftime, it was tied at 0-0 with just four shots taken amongst both teams.
-Ohio State took a 1-0 lead in the third quarter from a 39th minute goal. Indiana built opportunities in response with five shots taken off four penalty corners in the third quarter but could not convert.
-After that, Ohio State pulled away in the fourth quarter.
LOOKING AHEAD:
-Indiana has a challenging slate remaining of their final eight regular season games.
-Of the eight teams, five of them are ranked in the top 20 of the NFHCA Coaches Poll.
-Four of the final eight games will be at home and the other four will be on the road.

-Eight different Hoosiers have scored a goal this season: Sarah Charley, Inés Garcia Prado, Jemima Cookson, Yip van Wonderen, Maggie Carter, Meghan Dillon, Anna Mozeleski and Meredith Lee.

-Shannon McNally and Arabella Loveridge have split time in the cage this season. McNally has played in eight games and has recorded 24 saves. Loveridge has made seven appearances this season and has 30 saves.
-Indiana has tied with their season opponents in penalty corners drawn. thus far. Both the Hoosiers and their opponents have drawn 58 corners.
-Kennedy Reardon and Sarah Charley are the most experienced players on the team with each player appearing in 82 career games. Reardon has been a Hoosier her whole career while this is Charley's first season at IU.
OVERTIME TIDBITS:
-Sunday's game at Bellarmine will be a homecoming for junior Meredith Lee and freshman Hannah Riddle as both are Louisville natives. Then, on Tuesday, they will face off against another hometown school, the University of Louisville, but in Bloomington.
-Indiana's 2022 team captains of Sydney Keld and Kennedy Reardon are both team captains again in 2023. Senior Jemima Cookson was voted in as a team captain in the spring, as well.
-Indiana's roster features three pairs of former high school teammates who are now playing together again. Maggie Carter and Javi Baeza played together at Shaker Heights High School (Ohio), Meredith Lee and Hannah Riddle played together at Assumption High School (Kentucky) and Anna Mozeleski and Maddie Olshemski played at Wyoming Seminary Prep (Pennsylvania).
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION:
-Indiana opens the weekend with a road game at Bellarmine. The Knights are off to a 4-6 start to the season but are winners of two of their last three games.
-Bellarmine defeated Longwood in a double-overtime game, 3-2, and then defeated Queens, 7-1, in Charlotte. Most recently, the Knights are coming off a 4-1 loss at Miami of Ohio.
-Paige Hoyer and Peyton Hobson are the team's leading scorers with seven and five goals for them, respectively. Hobson also has three assists on the year.
-This is only Bellarmine's fourth year as a Division I athletic institution. Sunday's game will be the fourth meeting between the programs with Indiana leading the all-time series, 3-0. Indiana won 6-3 in last year's game.
-Louisville's season is off to an impressive 9-1 start. The Cardinals own wins over No. 2 Northwestern, No. 10 Princeton, No. 18 Ohio State and No. 7 Virginia, among other good teams.
-The team's only loss was a 2-0 game at No. 2 North Carolina.
-Ten Cardinals have notched a goal this season with Aimee Plumb leading the team with five. She is also the team's assist leader with five, as well.
-Louisville leads the all-time series with Indiana, 16-5.
