
Indiana to Close Regular Season Against Michigan State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– After splitting last weekend on the road, Indiana Field Hockey is set to finish the regular season at home against Michigan State.
WEEKEND REWIND:
-Indiana split last weekend in their two games on the road. They started by falling to No. 3 Ohio State in penalty shots, 2-1, on Friday, and finished the weekend with another ranked road win at No. 7 Michigan, 2-1.
-Against Ohio State, the Hoosiers held an early lead despite the offensive push by the Buckeyes.
-Inés Garcia Prado scored her eighth goal of the season to give Indiana the 1-0 lead going into halftime. However, Ohio State would score late in the third period to tie the game
-Despite several opportunities from both teams, neither was able to finish the game in regulation or overtime, leading to penalty shootouts. Ohio State would eventually score the winning penalty stroke to get the 2-1 win.
-On Sunday, Indiana bounced back by earning their third ranked win of the season when they beat No. 7 Michigan, 2-1.
-The Hoosiers were not given many shot attempts but were accurate when they earned them. The two goals came from the team's only two shots on goal.
-Yip van Wonderen opened the scoring for Indiana to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
-Michigan tied early into the second half, but Garcia Prado scored the sealing goal late in the third quarter, giving the Hoosiers the win.
LATE SEASON SUCCESS:
-Indiana has shown major growth from the beginning of the season, winning five of their last seven games, including a four-game win streak.
-Since the calendar turned to October, Indiana has seen three ranked wins against No. 12 Iowa, No. 18 Cal, and No. 7 Michigan. The wins against Iowa and Michigan also came on the road.

-Nine different Hoosiers have scored a goal this season: Inés Garcia Prado, Yip van Wonderen, Sydney Keld, Sofia Arrebola Garcia, Jemima Cookson, Mijntje Hagen, Meredith Lee, Maggie Carter and Hannah Riddle.
-Garcia Prado leads the way with eight goals while van Wonderen and Hagen follow with six and five goals, respectively. Keld has three goals while Lee and Riddle have two each. Arrebola Garcia, Cookson, and Carter each have one goal this season as well.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION:
-Indiana will close out both the regular season and conference play with Michigan State. The Spartans have bested the Hoosiers in the previous two meetings in 2022 and 2023, but Indiana won the last matchup in Bloomington in 2021.
-Michigan State is 8-9 with wins against UC Davis, Vermont, Bellarmine, Colgate, Ball State, Miami (OH), Central Michigan, and No. 16 Iowa.
