
Indiana to Start Big Ten Play against No. 1 Northwestern

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– Indiana Field Hockey's is set to start the Big Ten season in Bloomington at Deborah Tobias Field this weekend. The Hoosiers will begin their first of conference games against No. 1 Northwestern on Sunday, Sep. 22 with an 11 a.m. start.
WEEKEND REWIND:
-Indiana Field Hockey will look to get back into the swing of things after being off from game action for over a week between games.
-The Hoosiers split games with a close loss to Miami (OH) and a win over Ball State.
-In a midweek test against Miami on Wednesday, the Hoosiers fell short in a defensive battle, dropping the game, 1-0.
-Both defenses set the tone in the first half as each team was held to 0-0 at the break.
-Shortly after halftime, Miami was able to score the game's only goal off of a penalty corner.
-Sadie Canelli made her first collegiate start in the cage against the Redhawks. The freshman made seven saves.
-Indiana was able to bounce back and split the weekend with a 2-0 win over Ball State on Friday.
-The Hoosiers dictated the pace early but were unable to take the lead before the half.
- Sydney Keld would score her second goal of the season early in the second half to give Indiana a 1-0 advantage.
-Maggie Carter then followed suit with a fourth quarter goal of her own to secure the win for the Hoosiers.
NEW AND RETURNING PRODUCTION:
-Indiana has had strong early showings from their returning talent and newcomers.
-Sophomore Inés Garcia Prado, Freshman Mijntje Hagen and Graduate Sydney Keld currently lead the Hoosiers in scoring with two goals per player.
-Both of Hagen's goals have come from her only two shots she has taken on the season.
-Junior Emma Thompson serves as the anchor of the defense, leading the team's backline.
QUICK STATS:
-Five different Hoosiers have scored a goal this season: Inés Garcia Prado, Yip van Wonderen, Sydney Keld, Mijntje Hagen and Maggie Carter.
-Garcia Prado, Keld and Hagen lead the way with two goals each while van Wonderen and Carter each have one.
-As a team, 14 Hoosiers have taken a shot. Garcia Prado leads all players with 14 shots, followed by Meghan Dillon (11), van Wonderen (10) and Sofia Arrebola Garcia (9). Forty-four of the 79 shots have been on goal (56%).
-Sofia Arrebola Garcia is currently the team leader in assists with two. Van Wonderen and Lara Mortz each have one assist, as well.
-Arabella Loveridge has made 12 saves on the season. Seven of those saves came in a neutral site match against Liberty. She has split time in the cage with Sadie Canelli this season, who has seven saves.
-Loveridge passed Noelle Rother to become No. 4 in career saves in program history. She reached the mark in the Liberty game.
-Indiana has drawn 31 penalty corners this season, outdrawing their competition, 31-27.
-The Hoosiers are also earning more shot opportunities than the competition. Indiana is averaging 15.8 shots per game compared to their opposition's 9.6 shots per game.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION:
-Northwestern enters the matchup with Indiana with a 6-0 record and ranked as the No. 1 team in the country by the NFCHA. Prior to the match with Indiana, Northwestern will face Iowa on Friday, Sep. 20.
-The Wildcats have only allowed one goal on the season, conceding one to UMass on Sep. 1. They have also defeated three ranked teams in No. 5 Duke, No. 17 Boston College and No. 9 Louisville.
-This will be only the second time the Wildcats have traveled to Bloomington in the last seven matchups between the teams.
-When playing in Bloomington, Indiana leads the all-time series 8-5 against Northwestern.
-The Wildcats are outscoring their opponents 15-1 on the season. Their season-high came in a 6-1 rout against UMass.
