
Indiana Field Hockey Heads East for Pennsylvania Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– Indiana Field Hockey is set for a weekend road trip to the state of Pennsylvania. The Hoosiers will continue conference play with a match at No. 19 Penn State on Friday, Sep. 27. and a non-conference match at Lock Haven on Sunday, Sep. 29.
WEEKEND REWIND:
-Indiana fell short in a tight battle last Sunday to No. 1 Northwestern, falling 1-0 in their Big Ten opener.
-Despite losing, Indiana displayed an impressive effort, keeping the No. 1 Wildcats in check throughout the majority of the game.
-Indiana dictated the pace early. They were able to record six shots in the first period alone with five being on goal.
-The Hoosiers pushed the game to a scoreless half, but Northwestern found the back of the cage a few minutes after the break.
-The Wildcats scored the game's only goal in the 26th minute off of a penalty corner.
-The Hoosiers would make one last effort as they emptied the net with less than three minutes to play, but they could not generate enough offense to challenge.
-The Hoosiers led the wildcats in shots for the game, 14-12. Eight of their shots were on goal in the game.
- Yip van Wonderen and Iman Aicha Tabbai Marzocca each led the Hoosiers with three shots.
-Sadie Canelli made three saves in the cage for the Hoosiers.
NEW AND RETURNING PRODUCTION:
-Indiana has had strong early showings from their returning talent and newcomers.
-Sophomore Inés Garcia Prado, freshman Mijntje Hagen and graduate student Sydney Keld currently lead the Hoosiers with each scoring two goals.
-Hagen's two goals come off of just three shot attempts.
-Senior Arabella Loveridge and Freshman Sadie Canelli have both seen time in the cage serving as strong goalkeeping options. Loveridge has notched 12 saves and started the first three games while Canelli has 11 when starting in the last three matchups.
QUICK STATS:
-Five different Hoosiers have scored a goal this season: Inés Garcia Prado, Yip van Wonderen, Sydney Keld, Mijntje Hagen and Maggie Carter.
-Garcia Prado, Keld and Hagen lead the way with two goals each while van Wonderen and Carter each have one.
-As a team, 14 Hoosiers have taken a shot. Garcia Prado leads all players with 15 shots, followed by van Wonderen (13), Meghan Dillon (11), and Sydney Keld (10). 52 of the 93 shots have been on goal (56%).
-Sofia Arrebola Garcia is currently the team leader in assists with two. Van Wonderen, Lara Mortz, and Emma Thompson each have one assist, as well.
-Loveridge has made 12 saves on the season. Seven of those saves came in a neutral site match against Liberty.
-Sadie Canelli has made 11 saves through her first three collegiate games. She recorded seven saves in her first career start against Miami (OH).
-Arrabella Loveridge passed Noelle Rother to become No. 4 in career saves in program history. She reached the mark in the Liberty game.
-The Hoosiers are earning more shot opportunities than the competition. Indiana is averaging 15.5 shots per game compared to their opposition's 10 shots per game.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
-Friday's match at Penn State will mark back-to-back games facing a ranked team for Indiana as the Nittany Lions are currently No. 19 in the NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll.
-Penn State is 4-3 and has won its last four games, defeating Delaware, Kent State, Princeton and Bucknell. Their losses are all to ranked teams: No. 3 Virginia, No. 15 Syracuse and No. 6 Saint Joseph's.
-Sophia Gladieux currently leads the Nittany Lions and the entire Big Ten Conference with 12 goals scored. Sophia Mannino follows in the scoring ranks with two goals.
-Julien van Bekkum leads the Nittany Lions with three assists. Gladieux and Madison Tambroni are just behind her with two assists each.
- Aby Deverka has locked down the cage with 39 saves on the season.
-Sunday's match at Lock Haven will be just the second meeting in program history between the two teams. The only other game played was in 2012 when Indiana defeated Lock Haven, 2-1, at Lock Haven.
-Melanie Beall leads Lock Haven in goals with three, followed by Gracyn Catalano who has two.
-Alexis Kern leads Lock Haven in assists with two. Catalano, Elien Bos, Brooke Hofsass, Deana Campbell and Costanza Lopez Zabala each have notched one.
