
No. 17 IU Defeats No. 18 UCSB, Falls To No. 10 Arizona State At Kalbus Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 17 Indiana split a pair at the 2025 Barbara Kalbus Invitational on Saturday, both games going into overtime as it defeated No. 18 UCSB, 11-10, and falling to No. 10 Arizona State, 14-12.

KEY MOMENTS VS. UCSB
- To get action rolling on the day, Indiana drew first attack with a goal from junior Louisa Downes and junior Grace Hathaway gave it a 2-1 lead.
- Hathaway combined with senior Portia Sasser and junior Skylar Kidd to give IU its largest lead of the game, 5-1, at the half.
- The Gauchos came out firing in the second half, outscoring the Hoosiers 8-4 overall to force and overtime.
- After a scoreless first overtime period, Downes broke the 9-9 tie on a powerplay with 2:40 remaining while senior Sophia Sollie confirmed the Hoosiers win with 41 seconds to play.
KEY MOMENTS VS. ASU
- The game was knotted up after one with the two teams scoring three goals each in the first quarter. IU's lead was as many as two, but the Sun Devils added a pair back to make it a 3-3 game.
- Indiana broke the tie late in the second quarter on a Kidd goal but were outscored by two to fall behind 6-4 at the break.
- Downes got the Hoosiers going in the third on the feed from Kidd as the two teams combined for seven goals in the frame. Hathaway scored back-to-back to pull her team back within one headed to the fourth, trailing 9-8.
- Hathaway completed her hat trick to tie the game at 9-all in the fourth and her fourth goal game to make it 10-all with 3:45 remaining in the game. Indiana would get goals from Sasser and Downes to take a 12-11 lead with 1:09 remaining. ASU would tie the game up and force overtime with four seconds remaining.
- ASU would score the only two goals in overtime, one in each period.
NOTES
- Indiana moved to 11-4 overall in Saturday's split.
- Three Hoosiers had a pair of goals against UCSB, with Kidd, Sasser and Downes all notching two in the victory.
- Hathaway picked up a team-high four steals.
- Junior goalie Jasmine Higgs recorded 12 saves in the cage against the Gauchos.
- Hathaway had her third hat trick of the season with a team-high four goals against Arizona State and went 4-for-5. Downes also had a hat trick to lead the Hoosiers offense.
- Klingler pulled away four steals and Downes picked up three.
- Sasser added three more assists to her season-high total of 29.
