
No. 12 Indiana Splits Pair at Midwest Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 12 Indiana women's water polo started the day with a 14-12 win over Marist but fell for the first time this season in 15-14 decision to No. 16 Michigan in the Midwest Invite on Saturday at Counsilman-Billinglsley Aquatic Center.

KEY MOMENTS VS. MARIST
- In the first half, Indiana was led by hat tricks from senior Skylar Kidd and junior Grace Klingler. Marist would end up taking a 5-4 lead after the first as the Hoosiers rattled off five goals in the fifth to take a 9-6 edge at the break.
- The Red Foxes had the advantage in the third, cutting the deficit to one including a last second 6-on-5 opportunity to make it a 12-11 Hoosier lead.
- Senior Portia Sasser and junior Nicole Tyner combined in the fourth for a pair of goals as Indiana held off a late comeback attempt.
KEY MOMENTS VS. MICHIGAN
- The lead was as many as four for the Hoosiers in the first quarter as four different players got Indiana out a 5-1 lead. But the Wolverines would answer with four goals of their own but IU held on to the 6-5 advantage.
- The game went back-and-forth much of the second quarter as Michigan broke an 8-8 tie late in the frame on a powerplay to take the 10-8 lead at the half.
- Sollie scored first for Indiana in the third with an assist from Tyner. Downes made it a 10-all game with 4:07 remaining. But UM made it a one-point lead (12-11) at the end of the third on a goal with 1:39 left.
- Going down a pair of goals early in the fourth, Downes scored with 5:31 on the clock to bring IU back within one. In another back-and-forth effort, the game was tied at 14-all on goal from Tyner. The Wolverines would score with 1:30 left and proved to be the difference maker as Indiana's late quarter shots were no good.
NOTES
- Indiana moves to 9-1 overall on the 2025 season.
- Kidd led the way with four goals in the opener against the Red Foxes. Klingler and Sollie each had hat tricks.
- Goalies Jasmine Higgs and Audrey Cox split time in cage against Marist with Higgs adding four saves while Cox also had four saves and two steals.
- Junior Louisa Downes posted four assists in the win.
- Downes led the way against Michigan with a career-high six goals and had three assists for nine points Sollie also notched her fourth hat trick of the season.
- Higgs and Cox combined for four saves each.
