Multis and Distance Start the Split Weekend

TERRE HAUTE, Ind./WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Indiana track and field completed the first day of the Gibson Invitational at the Gibson Track and Field Complex and the Wake Forest invitational at Kentner Stadium on Thursday (April 17). The Hoosiers recorded several personal bests and multiple event wins across the day.
"The three men that raced tonight (Brayden Henkle, Abe Eckman, and Dylon Nalley) did a fantastic job of competing in their respective races," said associate head coach Eric Heins. "They showed a lot of determination and competitive spirit and took advantage of the opportunity to race against high level competition."
The day started in Terre Haute, Indiana, for the first day of the men's decathlon. After day one of competition, Garrett Messer sits in first after event wins in the shot put (14.39m/47-2.5) and the 400 meter (49.89).
Messer is followed by Max Grangier in fourth. Grangier achieved personal bests in the 100-meter dash (11.21), the long jump (6.63m/21-9), and the high jump (1.82m/5-11.5).
At Wake Forest, Dylon Nalley ran a 14:16.81 to finish sixth in the men's 5,000.
Abe Eckman and Dylon Nalley finished the day with historic marks in the 10,000-meter run. Eckman placed fifth with a personal best time of 28:47.69, followed by Nalley in eighth with a time of 29:12.38. These marks move them to second and ninth, respectively, on the all-time program list.
