Personal Bests Highlight Day Two of Three Day Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana track and field continued from weekend of the Gibson Invitational at the Gibson Track and Field Complex, the Wake Forest invitational at Kentner Stadium, and The Tom Jones Invitational from James G. Pressly Stadium on Friday (April 18). The Hoosiers recorded several personal bests across the three meets.
Day two started in Terre Haute, Indiana, for the close day of the men's decathlon. Garrett Messer finished first with a personal best 7,127 points. Messer saw individual event wins in the shot put (14.39m/47-2.5), the 400 meter (49.89), the 110-meter hurdle (14.25), and the discus (42.29m/138-9).
Max Grangier concluded the decathlon in third with 6,533 points, including a win in the 1,500. His time of 4:21.83 set a personal best and a Gibson Invitational record.
Hannah Alexander continues to improve in her first outdoor season. Her winning performance in the discus (52.06m/170-9) moves her to 11th in the all-time list
Caleb Smith (50.39m/165-4) and Hunter Smith (50.38m/165-3) each set personal bests in the discus as they placed second and third, respectively.
Dalton Boisseau (58.20m/190-11) placed second in the javelin throw to finish the day's competition in the Gibson Invitational.
Ines Herault started the final day of the Wake Forest Invitational with a personal record (10:45.11) in the 3,000 steeplechase. The time was sixth fastest overall.
Joey Rastrelli (4:29.20) and Michaela Quinn (4:33.11) followed with career best times in the 1,500.
Maddie Russin's time of 2:08.37 earned her 11th in the 800 meter run. On the men's side, Andrew Mangum ran a personal best time of 1:49.43 and placed fourth. His time now sits as the 10th best in program history.
Taylor Fox and Lily Myers made improvements in their times for the 1,500. Each of their times now rank in the top 20 on the program's all-time list.
Mariah Wehrle completed the competition from Winston-Salem with a personal best in the 5,000. Her time of 15:59.08 earned a tenth place finish.
The Hoosiers also started competition in the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.
Kristina Vincic and Tamer Saleh started the meet in the 200-meter dash. Vincic ran a 24.08 time to finish 15th, while Saleh finished ninth with a time of 21.21.
Several Hoosiers saw personal bests, including Ryann Parrish () and Olivia Gee () in the 400-meter hurdles. These improvements also moved Parrish and Gee to eighth and 17th, respectively, on the all-time program list.
Trelee Banks-Rose continues to improve, as he set a personal best (20.47) in the 200-meter dash.
Jania Hodges (57.85) moved to second on the all-time list in the 400-meter hurdle list, passing Gretchen Baker.
