Big Ten Tournament Central: Iowa
5/21/2025 11:00:00 PM | Baseball
OMAHA, Neb. – The Indiana Baseball team (31-24) will wrap up its stay at Charles Schwab Field and the Big Ten Tournament with the final game of Pool C against Iowa on Thursday (May 22) evening at 9:00 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcasted on the Big Ten Network with Connor Onion and Scott Pose on the call.
IU fell to No. 10-seeded Rutgers, 5-2, on Tuesday (May 20) – effectively ending its chances at advancing out of pool play this week. However, the Hoosiers still have a chance to end on a high note. The Hoosiers were swept in Iowa City at the end of April and will look to break a four-game losing streak to the Hawkeyes.
Freshman first baseman Jake Hanley was listed all over postseason awards by the conference. The 2025 Big Ten Freshman of the Year was also a Second Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection. He had a multi-hit day in his first career conference tournament game and now has 73 hits on the season.
The Hoosiers got great pitching from veterans Ryan Kraft and Gavin Seebold and could now turn the ball over to Second Team All-Big Ten starting pitcher Cole Gilley or veteran pitcher Ben Grable on Friday. Gilley is going for win No. 10 on the season and is looking to become the first IU starter with 10 wins in a season since Kyle Hart in 2016.
IU has won at least one Big Ten Tournament game in three-straight seasons and will look to extend the streak on Thursday evening. First pitch is set for 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT in Omaha. The contest was moved up due to impending weather in the area.

Leading Off
THE BEST FRESHMAN: Freshman first baseman Jake Hanley was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year after a fantastic campaign in Bloomington. He leads all conference freshmen in hits (73), batting average (.340), home runs (14) and RBIs (52). He was also a Second Team All-Big Ten selection.
OMAHA REGULARS: IU qualified for its 12th-straight Big Ten Tournament with last week's series victory over Michigan. The Hoosiers have the longest active streak of made tournaments in the league. IU has won at least one game in each of the last three Big Ten Tournaments.
DT DOES IT AGAIN: Junior outfielder Devin Taylor will likely play his final game for the Hoosiers on Friday against Iowa. He became the third player in program history to be named First Team All-Big Ten in three seasons for the Hoosiers. He hit career home run number 53 against Rutgers on Tuesday.
GILLEY TIME: Graduate student pitcher Cole Gilley will go for his 10th win of the season on Friday when he starts against Iowa. He is aiming to become just the sixth pitcher in program history to win 10 games in a season. The last to do it was future big leaguer Kyle Hart (10) in 2016.
ONE AWAY: Junior second baseman Tyler Cerny will look to become the 26th player in program history to reach 200 career hits. He's just one away heading into Friday's game and will attempt to join fellow teammate Devin Taylor in the illustrious group of talented players.
FINISH STRONG: The Hoosiers can close out the season on a strong note and pick up win No. 32 by beating Iowa on Friday afternoon. It would be career victory No. 108 for both Cerny and Taylor - who have both been three-year starters for head coach Jeff Mercer.
