Meet Central: IUTF Show Out in Day One of Indiana Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana track and field opened the Indiana Invitational on Friday (January 17) inside Gladstein Fieldhouse with nine different event winners and several personal bests on first day of the event.
"We had a really good first day against some really good power four programs coming to the facility," said assistant coach Andrew Poore. "It felt like our team really competed well and rose to the challenge."
"We had a lot of event winners in the field as well as on the track, so for this early in the season you want to see the group embrace facing off against high level athletes and to take pride in representing IU on their home track."
The men's heptathlon started the day, with Max Grangier and Xavier Alston finishing the day in second and third, respectively. Grangier (Long Jump) and Alston (shot put) both saw event wins, while Alston also set personal best marks in the high jump (1.91m) and the shot put (11.28m).
On the track, the Hoosiers saw winners in four separate events.
After advancing to the finals, John Colquitt (7.95) tied his personal best time to win the men's 60-meter hurdles.
Jasiah Rogers (6.72) and Trelee Banks-Rose (6.73) followed in the men's 60-meter sprint. The duo finished within a second of each other to go first and third, respectively in the finals.
It was a Hoosier sweep in the 600m as Veronica Hargrave (1:28.37; PR) and Camden Marshall (1:17.14) won their respective races. In the women's race, Nola Somers Glenn followed Hargrave close, finishing second in a personal best time of 1:30.60.
In the women's 200-meter race, Kiera Davis ran a strong race, finishing third in a time of 24.32. Novo Onovwerosuoke (21.70) ran a season best time in the men's race, finishing third.
The day on the track finished with the women's distance medley relay. The quartet of Joey Rastrellli, Kai Snell, Ciara Kepner, and Ava Jarrell finished second in a time of 11:53.15.
The Hoosiers in the field had plenty of success in day one of the Invitational, seeing event wins in four of the six events.
Hannah Alexander and Hunter smith started the day sweeping the men's and women's weight throws. Alexander threw for a distance of 19.13m while Smith threw for 20.28m.
Alex Smith found his best mark of the season in the long jump. His distance of 7.29m was good for the event win.
Tyler Carrel continued his dominance in the pole vault. He reached a season best merk of 5.45m to clear through the competition.
In the women's high jump, Josie Page (1.76m) neared her season best height to finish fourth overall.
Day two of the Indiana Invitational will begin tomorrow, Jan. 17, at 9 am when the women's pentathlon begins with the 60-meter hurdles.
