Hoosiers Drop 10-Inning Battle at No. 25 Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. ––– Indiana and No. 25 Louisville battled and battled in a back-and-forth, four-hour game on Wednesday (April 15) at Ulmer Stadium. The Hoosiers ended up falling to the Cardinals, 8-7, in 10 innings.
With the loss, Indiana is now 32-11 on the season.

KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana got the bases loaded in the top of the first and took advantage when Madalyn Strader hit a sac fly to right field to score Aly VanBrandt from third and put the Hoosiers up 1-0.
• Madalyn Strader made a leaping grab on a line drive hit by Louisville's Chelsea Mack in the bottom of the third. That helped keep the score at 1-0 and the Cardinals scoreless through three frames.
• Indiana had two triples in the top of the fourth as both Haberstroh and VanBrandt found the gap in right center and got to third. In between the two at bats, Brooke Mannon hit a sac fly to right to bring Haberstroh home and make it a 2-0 game.
• Louisville got on the board when Taylor Monroe singled to shallow right field and Madison Pickens scored to make it 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
• The Cardinals then used a pair of RBI singles to take the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the sixth.
• Needing a response, Aly VanBrandt provided one, crushing a solo home run out to right center field to even the game at 3-3 and help push it to extra innings.
• In the eighth inning, Indiana took the lead again as Cassidy Kettleman singled to left and Josie Bird singled to shortstop to put the Hoosiers up 5-3.
• Louisville had an RBI double and scored on an error to even it at 5-5 through eight innings.
• After a scoreless ninth inning, Josie Bird singled through the left side to bring home two Hoosiers and help Indiana regain the lead, 7-5.
• Louisville would take the game on an RBI single down the left field line.
NOTABLES
• VanBrandt's home run put her at 12 on the year.
• Josie Bird was 2-for-2 with three RBI while also drawing a career high four walks.
• Of Hannah Haberstroh's three hits, one was a double and one was a triple
• Haberstroh and VanBrandt each had a triple tonight.
UP NEXT
Indiana will be back in action for a Big Ten series at Iowa from Friday to Sunday (April 17-19) at Bob Pearl Field.
